Anyone else see this? This is almost as exciting to me as the Skylab proposal.

BY WW EDITORIAL STAFF | 503-243-2122

[July 23rd, 2008] Let’s rock: Developers Randy Rappaport (known for loft projects on Southeast Belmont and Division streets) and Brad Malsin (Eastbank Commerce Center) want to develop a new 2,000-seat live performance venue on the Willamette’s east bank. Design is complete for a $7 million building and the developers are talking to Mayor-elect Sam Adams about some public financing. No timetable yet for construction. But Rappaport says, “We’ll have a minimalist, abstract exterior and the interior is going to have a monolithic, organic feel. Like you’re inside a whale.”

renderings and an architect's name would be nice. Also a location on the Eastbank would be nice too.

^^^ I was hoping someone here would be able to offer up some info. Obviously, Rapaport and Malsin have a history with both Holst and Works, and the description in WW sounded like something either of those firms would be able to pull off deftly.

New information and some renderings on the Burnside Blog (http://www.portlandspaces.net/blog/the-burnside-blog/2008/7/30/works-partnership-to-design-rock-club):

I think the locations will be on one of those big empty lots at SE Water and Taylor.

Thanks for the link eagle rock...Indeed those renderings are vague but I am DEFINITELY looking forward to this being built and what it looks like. If I remember correctly wasn't something like this planned for almost the same area back when the lloyd district was being planned as an entertainment district? It was an amphitheater on the waterfront by the steel bridge.

it is good to see Works working on it, that firm is really starting to change the look of the inner eastside.

I think this is brilliant. You gotta hand it to Rappaport, he saw a need and spearheaded the effort to get it done.
