Sky Tower on the left
Sun Tower (not a supertall) on the right
The four buildings with the connected rooftop is a blatant ripoff of one under construction in Singapore right now.

^^ Actually it might be the opposite. This project was announced back in 2005.
I think it's probably a coincidence since both projects were probably under design at the same time at some stage

That is a strange design for sure.
I am quite shocket that such a huge project as this can't
produce any better 3D renderings than these.
It's impossible to get a fair impression of the project.

I think it was Looney Tunes, but when I was a kid I remember a cartoon where they always threatened to send people to Abu Dhabi as like banishment from civilization. And now it's getting a supertall. Strange how things change.

WOW! Those buildings are huge!!! And they're still gonna build those residential towers around these two giants?
And the design has grown on me. I'm not a fan but they don't bother me anymore. The color is different from what I thought it was gonna be and I like the small white panels here and there.

^^ That's the plan but who knows now with the financial crisis and all that stuff. Maybe some years later they will build more stuff but I doubt it right now. Abu Dhabi are developing in a much more consistent and steady way so crashes wouldn't be as hard as in Dubai.

omfg! This is such a massive project! I actually like it and I think that I'd like to see it one day. And they're only of the 63rd level! Wtf! Maybe they just looks big because of their shape but no doubt that they're pretty big. They nearly as tall as the ESB.

From the 7th of June. Around 310m for the tower sounds right. Would be good to get some confirmation of this.

The smaller tower (Sun) has defiantly T/O.
The taller one (Sky) just looks like it needs to complete the top floor. Plus spire?

The "small" towers are kind weird. I think another design would've been better but they're pretty cool nonetheless. I feel like the facade should've had a smoother look to it, just like the Guangzhou Twin Tower West.

Topped out now.
TOPPED OUT – SKY AND SUN TOWERS REACH THEIR PEAK
The landmark Sky and Sun Towers, marking the entrance of SHAMS Abu Dhabi, have been 'topped out', meaning that the structures have been completed on both buildings.
Both buildings are now at their full height, with the Sky Tower registering 74 stories and Sun Tower at 65 stories. The buildings are officially the tallest structures in Abu Dhabi today and act as a visual reference point and gateway to SHAMS Abu Dhabi.
Progress on the development continues apace with the majority of the installation work on both the curtain (ie exterior) walls and Sky Pods both completed.
The ground floor slab, Mezzanine level and Level 1 and 2 of the Podium (which will be home to retail, leisure and business facilities) have now been finalised. Levels 3 and 4 are now 90% and 76% complete respectively. Overall construction work on the Podium is now 82% complete and on track to be finished in August.
The internal fit-out of both buildings is also well underway, with meticulous detail being paid to the finishing of the interior partitioning, floor, ceiling and mechanical engineering, meeting the highest standards that Sorouh customers have come to expect.

Well they are in a pretty remote location at the moment.
Amazing shot btw. Is it from another building? If so, it must've been made with a good zoom. I wouldn't think a helicopter would risk flying in such landing conditions.

I'm thinking all that extra space will be covered with development sooner or later. Kind of like how the Burj Dubai was seen surrounded by desert but now it's all filled in with development now. These towers aren't that far from the rest of the city anyway, and the infill should follow. Can't wait to see this in 5 years time!
BTW that shot of the towers over the fog is AMAZING. My new desktop background.

sleek looking towers - I like - amazing pic with the fog!!
I suppose the plan is to build Dubai mark 2 around them in all that wasteland.
I wonder if it will ever happen though. How much development can these areas take? Dubai is already on its last legs...

I kind of agree with you. The taller tower does look sort of like the Detroit Marriot hotel with the external elevator shafts. Of course the main difference besides the oval floorplan (vs round) and the 40% height difference is the one vs four secondary towers (also oval vs octagon).
