great shots, I have been dying to get back to Pittsburgh. When there over 10 years ago and would love to go back and really get to know the city better. I am a strong believer that if we were to take Pittsburgh and Portland, Or and combine the two cities together into one, we would have the greatest city in this country. Pittsburgh has a great collection in historical urban architecture infrastructure and Portland has its greenery and its beer...among other things for both cities. Seriously, anyone who knows both cities, think about that one, it would be hard to disagree.

Maybe that should be what replaces the city verse city threads. Combine this city and that city.

very nice photos. I love the last one with the smithfield st. bridge and the cool looking clouds in the late evening. You captured the cultural feel of the South side very well.

Urbanlife; Thanks. I've heard a lot of good about Portland, never been to though, but hope to make it out there for a visit someday.

Jackstraw; Yeah, I love how eclectic the South Side is. It's probably my favorite neighborhood to hang out in when I'm in Pittsburgh, and it's usually one of the first stops when I bring someone new to the city.

Edit: It took me I believe ten shots to get one I was pleased with, concerning the last photo, as I'm fairly new to photography and pretty much stink at it

Not bad for a newbie. Glad to see you away from the negativity of city-data. Welcome to the place where the good folks hang out! ;)

Thanks everyone. Sharpsville in Mercer County. I plan on getting some pictures together for an urban thread of the Shenango Valley, since I see people like posting modest and small sized cities as well.

City-data.com's forum is where suburbinites complain about the city.

I remember reading some people's comments on there how Cranberry was the nicest area of Pittsburgh, and how Pittsburgh is dying, and the houses are ugly or something. It is usually one or two people bickering, and arguing, and people talking about moving to the sunbelt, and former sunbelt members saying how much nicer their McMansion in the burbs in North Carolina is than the ugly town of Pittsburgh, and bla bla bla. I can barley read that forum anymore.

I post on there very little. I got three infractions for being sarcastic. I mean for being sarcastic! You arn't aloud to be sarcastic, wtf? I get annoyed with so many people on there also. The rep points are also very retarded.

The threads are like, "What TFI Fridays is better, the one in Robinson, or the one in cranberry?" Then there is a 300 long conversation about it. But if you post something on Pittsburgh development, or something interesting about the city, it sinks to the bottom with maybe one response.

And please don't invite your city-data friends over here. You seem cool on that board. But if that annoying as hell Katinia person and Londonbabblesalot person come over to this otherwise more intelligent less obnoxious forum, they would ruin it for good.

Lmao, I have no plans on inviting anyone to this board. They can find it on their own as I did.

Great thread. I love this city.

What's up with the photo arrangment though? Is it just my computer where some pictures are side-by-side and the rest scroll down? It was confusing trying to see all the great pics.

Thanks.

There was also a GREAT lil Pizzeria, but I 4get it's name. Damn good! And a great bar/resto called Fat Heads or something. I really liked this area!

Thanks for the reminder that I need to get my ass back again SOON! haha

Very nice. One thing that strikes me about Pittsburgh is how it seems so cozy. It's a good sized city, but the whole city feels like one big neighborhood, but cozy.

Mr. Rogers Neighborhood!:D

My coworker just told me about a Mister Rogers encounter she and her daughter had in Squirrel Hill (his actual neighborhood) years ago. He was going into a Chinese restaurant and stopped to chat.

By the way, hi dugdogmaster! I finally made it over here. I finally got a valid email address and got sick :yuck: of you know where.

Great pictures of America's Finest City.

It is! I just went back and looked at my pics on this thread, and I realize I accidentally deleted some of the photos from my flickr account:( It's ok though, they were more than likely the really shitty ones:haha:
