Unlike the Vancouver Village, it's nothing spectacular.....it'll be a lot like the existing townhomes and homes that exist in the town today.

Roughly half and half of the 4,800 expected athletes will stay in each village.

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread but I came across a few rendering of the Whistler Celebration Plaza on the Bing Thom Architects website:
http://www.bingthomarchitects.com/
The renderings are under Projects > Cultural > Whistler Celebration Plaza
It's a flash website so I can't post the pictures here, but I recommend you guys check them out. Hopefully this is what is actually planned and not some conceptual design for the site.
EDIT: Looks like it is happening...
From bingthomarchitects.com:
April 2007 - Vancouver, BC. The Resort Municipality of Whistler recently awarded the design contract to Bing Thom Architects for the medals plaza for the 2010 Winter Games, as well as the closing ceremony of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
The intention will be to create a lasting and year-round legacy space for recreation, arts and culture and a permanent focal point for the Whistler community. Bing Thom Architects will be working with landscape architects, Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg.

^ wow, great find.
I'm pretty sure that is actually what is planned, not the concept. After Whistler said it couldn't pay for the new Paralympic rink, they moved some of the Paralympic hockey events to UBC Winter Sports Centre. VANOC in turn said that they would use the money they would have otherwise spent on the Whistler rink on a permanent medals plaza rather than a temporary one.
