i hope they keep that little park. and even expand it. the city needs more green open space and trees cuz it's so polluted and dense.

i'm originally from nyc too. if you live in manhattan than you should know central park takes up a huge chunk of manhattan and just a subway ride from any part of the island. and there's other squares and smaller parks that dot the island and very well maintained, e.g., madison square park, gramercy park, cloisters, battery park etc. not to mention flushing meadows, brooklyn botanical, bronx botanical, etc. in the other boroughs. and the air in nyc is generally better than in taipei. having those parklands definitely help.
i complain about nyc and los angeles too, btw. :D

ahh... in that case, as long as every place gets criticized equally :) One thing that I've noticed about Taiwanese people is that they tend to criticize Taiwan disproportionately compared to people from other cities, and there is a general lack of civic pride... although it is getting better now. And yeah, you're right, NYC does have alot of designated parks and nice areas. However, the places that are NOT nice are also dangerous, which is a main factor that makes Taipei (and Taiwan for that matter) appealing. No matter how run down a place is, it is still safe to walk around in. I would take the most run down places of Taipei over the Bronx, Harlem, Long Beach, South Central LA any day of the week.

I do not want to say about air or environmentm, but I suppose that New York and Taipei are totally different cities. New York is traditional western style city and Taipei is similar to Japanese cities. It is hard to say which city is better. In some particular areas, for example public transport. Taipei MRT is one the best MRTs in the world. But you can say that New York has one of the most beautiful skylines in the world. It's really just depended on which point you are looking.
Street vendor is an interesting thing. Most Aisan cities have street vandor. In Taiwan, is night market.
Here is a report I find from internet:

Nothing going on, the original plan for Maki's towers is still in the works. William's post is not one but actually three completely unrelated projects; Central Park, The Gate of Taipei, and the TDC business center near the corner of Zhongshan. I've listed them according to architect in the "Downtown" thread. ;)

A1 refers specifically to the Airport Access MRT stop, which is accessible via underground passage from Taipei Main Station, but will be directly under these towers. I'm assuming they probably ran out of space at TMS, or maybe having a separate area for the Airport Link is better logistically as TMS is already congested and overburdened. Moving the bus hub away from TMS will also do well to remove congestion in that area.

It will be just like Hong Kong. In Hong Kong you can take the Express train from the Airport to Central Station on Hong Kong Island. But once you get to Central Station you have to walk under a long tunnel to access the MTR.

Sadly, the bus companies find there is problem for circulation of ITaipei. They also find the bus driver is hard to drive the bus inside ITaipei.

cool!!! finally some construction!!
you know something i noticed about construction projects in taiwan: they dont seem to build big holes in the ground but build right on the surface. is that right? dont they need to build foundations below ground and space for a parking garage?
if you check out construction projects in this forum like in new york city, they tend to build huge holes tens of feet below the surface.

They excavate the site first and dig a couple of holes on it. One of these holes is use to remove underground water. And then they put the continous retaining wall in remain two hole and pour concrete into. I think underground foundation is in process and we can not see from the surface.
(Continous retaining wall is about 50m deep....)
For information, I think we need to ask engineer....

i dont see how you can build a foundation without building a hole from the surface. usually you just dig a big hole and pour concrete for the retaining walls and floors and then put in the pillars for the structure, etc. like at world trade center new york city:

Everything I say in my last respond is depend on these photos I posted, but I not an engineer. I just say what I saw from photos and also some infromation from skyscrapers.tw. And, the A1 station is in process, it is part of the foundation of this twin tower. From this point, I guess the underground construction is still going and we just can not see from surface.
I also hear from skyscrapers.tw, they use some construction tech same as use for tunnel.
Unfortunately, I'm not engineer......
I really think it is better ask engineer staff.
And there are a lot of construction tech, maybe it is one you not often see in Amercia.

The tendering of superstructure for this project still haven't get any tenders come to take. The reason is residentail project have much higher internal rate of return than official project in these ten years. And also most Taiwan big companies are manufacture and IT, they don't need a lot of office space. Economic recession is also affect the rent....
These factors come together result no tenderers.
