Holy shit wow. This is the most exciting thing I've heard for a while. It's been so embarrassing to have no bike shop in the core.

Great news. Bikes are cool. I love bikes. And it is kinda funny to think that Hamilton hasn't had a bike shop downtown until now.

Will this be in the former Korean restaurant? Or that Chinese clock shop (is it still there)? Or one or two shops over?

Great news. The hammer definitely will do well with a new bike shop downtown.

In time RTH - lots of great stuff happening on James North these days - the next 6 months look very interesting!

yup, I agree.
I was actually going to contact the folks at the Bad Dog and suggest they locate there (their website has had a 'new location coming soon' banner up for a while).
but now they are re-opening in their old spot, so I guess that kills that idea.

It will be in the old watch shop. The Korean restaurant and the small attached storefront are both closed.

James North totally needs a cafe with a small sidewalk patio.

kudos to messrs kuroc and burak, both contributors to this forum if i'm not mistaken. it's great to see such great investments taking place in the core. frankly, i'm a little jealous - if only i had some sort of skill and a couple bucks to invest.

There used to be one at King and Ferguson up until a few years ago. I believe it was Scattolon Cycle, which currently has a shop on the dreaded mountain.

For those looking to do things downtown in terms of real estate - you don't necessarily need "coin" - just someone willing to lend it to you...

That is in fact the hardest part...

Thanks for all the kind words -

Is the bike store still set to open in September? I've got a road bike that needs a tune-up!

he'll hopefully be open by sept. 12 - but it could take a little longer.

when i return home in a few months i'll be in the market for a bike, though probably something of the used variety - once you have your cannondale stolen you learn a few things. i'll pop-in for a look-see.

mixed media/hmag - i can't imagine how exciting it must have been to poke around in that old building and discover all those hidden gems. i've got my fingers crossed that you'll slowly work your way down the block renovating as you go.

There is some sort of mortgage/investment office opening in the little storefront attached to the old korean restaurant. they have already been paining inside and putting new furniture in so should be open really soon. word on the street is that the korean restaurant will reopen as well.. not sure the details.

bike hounds goal is sept 12, but worst case will be october art crawl. mixed media opens this week with full opening sept 12 - that should be fun. white elephant opens october as well. an exciting beginning to autumn on james north!
