i like how they're clustered together. this type of regional planning to build clusters centered around major subway stations is reminicent of early Japanese urban planning.:tup:

the simple reason is taiwanese cities are based on what Japanese developed between 1895 to 1945.

they need more eyecatching architecture. those grey concrete twin towers are ugly. :yuck: why can't they just clad everything in glass? it would look so much better.

Many of these buildings are for residential....

so? you can still have creative, eyecatching architecture for residential buildings. like these below. can somebody write a letter in chinese and send them to all the taiwanese architects so that they get some inspiration and create more innovative designs please?

I know what do you try to say!
The problem is Taiwanese people and weather.
They like this kind of style and also becasue the weather in Taiwan. It is hot and unusally very high humity. The cladding is not good way to build in such as a place like Taiwan. It will not comfort.

Market and weather are main force to enforce company build like this.
==========================================================

In my opinion, if you say official building, cladding is fine, but not for residential in this age.

Razqal

you dont make sense. you say weather is not suitable for this kind of cladding in taiwan, but then you say it's good for offices but not residential. what does it matter? if they can clad for offices, then they can clad for residential buildings.

and the humid weather in taiwan is the same as in hong kong, thailand, southern china, malaysia, philippines, singapore. weather is just an excuse. taiwanese people - architects and urban planners - just cant design well, period. and developers dont want to spend money cuz they are too cheap. taiwanese cities really are falling way behind other cities in development.

if taiwanese like this type of architecture, fine. but at least make it look nicer. like instead of every building having a flat roof with big box on top for water tower, why not use pitched roofs for variation? and why does every building have to be ugly grey and brown color? why cant they use different colors? why cant they see their cities are just grey and ugly cuz all the buildings are grey?

because most of Taiwanese poeple do not care about this.....:koko: :koko:
And becasue they do not care, it forces companies to choose the colour which is brown or grey. The reason is the building will not look so dirty because it is grey!
==========================================================
the weather....
In my opinion, the cladding buidling is not suitable in tropical region because it catch too much sun shine. However, it has very good appearance!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think it makes sense, but the exactly reason for this kind of ungly urban appearance is Taiwanese.(Please,not be confused becasue my poor english!)

One of the projects in 新板特區. The heights are between 130m to 150m.

I ask another same question in skyscrapers.tw
They say that more glazes will take more energy in place like Taiwan. It's not comfort for people to live.

For the desgin, it just impact by the market. The building companies are conservative.

OMG those towers look horrible! how come there are no windows on that? It looks like a prison or a US government building. Oh well, at least it will add to the shape of the skyline. hopefully more areas will be designated for redevelopment in Taipei...

The windows are covered with a protective tape.

looks pretty nice. but i think this area needs a couple of 200m+ towers to look like a mini shinguku.

no shit. there is hardly any space between buildings.

williamchung taiwan

However, from these picture views, it looks like it is not too crowded.
The buildings are not bad in my point of view, just now. However, compare with other city, it still has a lot of improvements.

in a communist authoritarian society like china where the govt. can do anything they want over the will of the people, yes.

in a democratic society like taiwan where civil liberties reign and the peoples' voices are heard, no.

take your pick. ;)

not bad. the only thing i would've liked to have seen is a better top - like a nice octagonal pointed dome type structure/steeple or something. taiwanese skyscrapers dont have any of that. thanks for posting.
