That logo is Continental Airlines. My favorite airline to fly! :)

Nice pics! I gotta say I appreciate you splitting them into individual posts. My slow-ass computer can't handle 100+ photos, but I was able to look at both individual posts (about 50 each) without screwing things up.

Thank you for this great thread! Interesting to see how cut off downtown is from the rest of the city. Does anyone know why it has developed that way? I'm guessing it may have something to do with the highways which cut off the rest of the city. You would think the urban development would begin to gradually spread out into the nearby blocks, but instead there is a sharp cut off between skyscrapers and suburban development.

Also, that first picture is amazing because of all the open space. Is that a park or are there flooding issues there?

Nice shots.

I'm amazed every time at how abruptly downtown Houston drops off from 500ft office skyscrapers to tumbleweed blowing through vacant lots of nothing.

There is a big gap in the development thanks to the floodways on the northside.

I agree with you. I LOVE that building and have since I was just a kid. It's the Wortham Tower. About 340 feet tall or so and is located along Allen Parkway and the Buffalo Bayou just to the West of downtown. It is such a great period piece of work.

Great pics. Nice to see something other than freeways and billboards!

That abandoned hotel highrise- can you give some backgorund on it? IOt looks like squatters use it! Great pics!!!

It was originally build as a Holiday Inn. It later became a Days Inn. It sat largely vacant after the oil bust in the 1980s until some spiritual guru (the maharishi?) bought it to house his followers. That didn't last long either. It's been empty minus a few squatters for at least 8 years or so.

That said, it is currently undergoing renovations to become a hotel again. It might go full circle as one of the brands the developers are shooting for is a Holiday Inn.

Nice shots.

I didn't see one tumble weed or parking lot of nothing in the whole set.

Oh, & Houston is sandwiched between a state forest & an ocean. The nearest dessert is over 300 miles away...

Cheers! ;)
