It's a talk format, anything to get a more varied opinion in Hamilton is most welcomed.

realcity...go check out the 'Hamilton Media' thread.
There ain't nothing new about this trashy station.
You'll be disgusted at the lineup.

The only reason I can see someone being "disgusted" by this station would be if that person was so narrow-minded that all they could tolerate from media would be 24 hours of soft-voiced announcers telling them how right they are about anything and everything.

i was looking for a Hamilton Media thread, obviously couldn't find it. Steel you can erase or move this to the appropriate thread.

Actually I'm glad, regardless of the quality of 820. Two things will happen, one I've already noticed, that is, more advertising between ML and 820, good for the line of work im in.

Secondly, competition. ML will have to improve its news and talk content. Its news has become really bad over the last years. I think they have one reporter, everything else is from either the Police Services PR (which says nothing) and wire feeds, it takes about 90 seconds and the news is over, also its the same thing all day long and that includes Celebrity News.... ML sucks now. Bill Kelly has no idea what he's talking about "invariably" is his favourite word (used incorrectly btw) it's as annoying as hearing John McCain say "my friends" every sentence. That guy in the afternoon, can't remember his name, he has that syndicated show, IS TOTALLY HORRIBLE, and the drive home wannabe comedian. I can't listen anymore.

I like to listen to 930 WBEN out of Buffalo, (because i travel out that way once a week) and their news takes 4-5 minutes. It's amazing to see how well news is covered in the US. We (Canadians) like to think that the US media controls everything -- although they do quite a bit -- at least their media is thorough and plenty of if. Just for research watch the Buffalo evening tv news (pick from one of three), if there is a shooting, vehicle crash whatever, the reporters are there capturing it live-to-tape. CHCH uses one segment out of 8 to cover a dog or cat story and never ever has any live coverage or live-to-tape, like a fire, crash or police standoff.

If I was an alien and wanted to secretly land on earth and not be noticed, I'd land in Canada. First, there is hardly any media and secondly no one would believe us not even ourselves and thirdly the news wouldn't spread past our borders.

Rant out.

Yes, we're all so much smarter and more educated and more enlightened than those Americans.

Turn 820 off if you don't like it -- it would seem to me you have access to the CBC signal out of Toronto if you want to be reassured about how right your opinions are. Ratchet down the smugness a little and people may actually be more willing to listen to your arguments.
