Tourist-Style NYC

This summer I was in NYC briefly with my wife and son who had never been, so we spent a couple days in the city doing the tourist thing. We didn’t have a whole lot of time – 2 days before we went upstate and a half day at the end of our trip, and with a young child, it’s difficult to do a lot of walking and photo-taking, but I did my best. I’ve been to New York many times, but I’m always in awe of it.

These are pretty touristy pics, and we’ve all seen Manhattan on here before, so I did some heavy editing on a few of these with the software I have at work just to see what else I could come up with.

We went up in the Empire State Building. I went up when I was really young, and was curious to check out Top of the Rock this time, but since I was playing tour guide to my son, we decided it would be a lot more impressive for him to tell his friends he had been to the top of the ESB. It was pretty hazy, but great views nonetheless.

We had dinner with my cousin who lives in Manhattan at the pizza place in this photo. Someone told him it was supposed to be the best pizza in the city… eh. I wondered how many pizza places claimed that. Anyway, it wasn’t the New York style pizza I was used to. Not bad, though.

The Times Square area… I’m not a huge fan of it. It’s a little too crowded and gaudy for me. But worth a stroll through if you’ve never been. These are from two separate days – one at the beginning, one before, one after our trip upstate.

In a way I hate looking at photos of New York because it just makes me want to jump on a plane to visit the city. I've been too many times to count, but you just never get tired of it.

Sweet.

Next time you should venture out of Manhattan, or at least more exotic locales.

It all depends on where you move. There are tons of places worth checking out there.

I posted 2 threads of pics from the neighborhood in Queens where I stayed (Forest (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=155897) Hills (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=155899)). The purpose for the trip was less the city than getting together with family upstate.

Magnificently done... certainly no reason for the opening disclaimer to get our expectations lowered. :-)

Also... a lot of very non-touristy shots here... showing the grit the grime and all of the sidewalk busy happenings that make NYC unbelievably attractive.

Careful.... your son will get bitten by the NYC ambition bug... he might want to end up there.

Hats off.

I'm guessing you mean the latest abomination to hit the NYC skyline, the yellow pixelated William Beaver House. It's high-priced rentals geared to young financial industry workers. It has a beaver as it's mascot and used to be notable for its blatant use of sex in its marketing campaign (it's called the Beaver House, for christ's sake). Their website has been toned down, though.

It's condos, not rentals.

Supposedly it was initially marketed to young financial types, but the buyers have been heavily foreign and from a broad spectrum of ages.

Designed by Tsao & McKown, who are considered trendy younger architects.
