Important read, this is not a joke.

The Canada Revenue Agency warns Canadians of mail scam
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is warning taxpayers to beware of a recent scam where some Canadians are receiving a letter fraudulently identified as coming from the CRA and asking for personal information. The letter is not from the CRA. A PDF version of the letter is available on the CRA Web site at www.cra.gc.ca/alert.

The letter claims that there is “insufficient information” for the individual’s tax return and that in order to receive any “claims,” they will have to update their records. The letter attaches a form specifically requesting the individual’s personal information in writing, via fax or email, including information on bank accounts and passports. This letter is not from the CRA and Canadians should not provide their personal information to the sender.

All taxpayers should be vigilant when divulging any confidential information to third parties. The CRA has well established practices to protect the confidentiality of taxpayers’ information.

The CRA has notified the proper law enforcement authorities of this scam.

Just had someone email me that notice but haven't heard of anyone getting it yet. And some of these places are so smooth to make it look so real. You sure have to be so careful now. Too many sly people out there now for sure.

The government has more info on us then we realize. Even if you owe money I bet they keep your bank info on file from your enclosed cheque. Or if you get a rebate and a person wants direct deposit again they have your bank info. Plus they already have our SIN's and addressess and phone numbers.

No need to insult him! Vid living in Northwestern Ontario is already bad enough as it seems! Someone has to represent the region you know! :D

BACK ON TOPIC...

I heard about this on the news earlier this week. Thanks for the heads up though. I'll keep my mailbox on a lookout. :)

THE GOVERNMENT HAS OUT SINs?!?! When the fuck did this happen?!!

People do send me things. Inky Mark, a conservative MP from Manitoba, sends me things all the time. He sends them to everyone in Thunder Bay, actually. His name has, ironically, become a synonym for "political party propaganda" among some people here, IE: "The Liberals sent me an Inky Mark the other day about their Green Shift thing" or "I got two NDP Inky Marks in my mail today, and they were identical! What a waste of paper!", etc.

What pissed me off is on the return envelope for the Income taxes had my SIN on the return label, which is premade by them. I ripped that part off. NO WAY was I having my SIN on the outside of any envelope. How stupid was this when there is so much identity theft going on now.

I meant the income tax office has all of our personal info.
