I hope that everyone here, or at least some of you, will be able
to attend the exciting lectures we have planned this year.
Established in 1968, the Carleton University Azrieli School of
Architecture and Urbanism's Forum Lecture Series continues to
bring some of the most acclaimed and influential international
architectural practitioners and theorists to the nation’s capital.
Speakers are selected based upon their established or emerging
reputations as leaders in their field. This opportunity to educate
students, faculty, alumni and the general public about the profession
and the impact that architecture has on design is unique in Ottawa.
Speakers in the past have included Arthur Erickson, Moshe Safdie,
Steven Holl, Massimiliano Fuksas, Peter Eisenman, Odile Decq, Daniel
Libeskind among others.
This year’s speakers come to us from all over the globe and will share
their unique perspective on the profession. Please take note that the
first lecture this year will be given by Manuelle Gautrand, on
Wednesday October 1st. Ms. Gautrand is a practising architect from
Paris best known for C42, the new Citroën automobile showroom on the
Champs-Élysées and the conversion of the Théâtre de la Gaîté Lyrique,
into a cultural centre dedicated to new media. All Forum lectures begin
at 6:00 p.m., are free for the general public, and are held at the National
Gallery of Canada Auditorium.
This year's schedule is as follows:
Wednesday October 1, 2008: Manuelle Gautrand, Paris
Wednesday October 22, 2008: Nili Portugali, Haifa
Monday November 10, 2008: Mario Botta, Lugano
Wednesday November 19, 2008: Mario Petreschi, Rome
Monday January 19, 2009: Dan Hanganu, Montréal
Wednesday March 18, 2009: Peter Buchanan, Vancouver
