EAP etc
What does mean to those who occasionally visit. It's a blank!!! Kindly call it by its complete name.
I visit almost daily, and still at times am confused. This is not text messaging.

This is not text messaging.
And it's also not a fully annotated encyclopedia. It's in essence, a chat room slash discussion forum.
Sorry, but while I sorta hear ya, you're not likely to see people suddenly typing everything out in full. Imagine the public transit thread: "Calgary, Alberta, Canada's Light Rail Train system, the Calgary-train.....".
You're in a subject-specific area, you have to get used to the jargon. Realistically, if you don't know what the Bow is, it's equally as frustrating as EAP. Would you prefer everyone refer to it as "EnCana's new office tower complex on Sixth Avenue Southwest, in downtown Calgary"?
That being said, I think the roundup of acronyms already started is a swell idea.

If you come across an acronym you don't know when reading a post, it's simple to just ask for a clarification.
I've done it a few times when people start using airport codes in the airport threads. Although now I have a shortcut to www.world-airport-codes.com (http://www.world-airport-codes.com) and that works even better. :)

DP is developer permit
HOV is high occupancy vehicle lane

airport codes are not acronyms- and actually none of the examples provided so far are acronyms- maybe FAR if it's pronounced "far." SCUBA, FUBAR, MILF and JAP are acronyms. FBI, EAP, CPC and LOL are not acronyms.

Just about every message board uses TLAs(3 letter accronym) and FLAs(4 letter ...) frequently.
Maybe an acronym guide should be added to the first page of the Calgary and Edmonton construction pages. Less cumbersom than another sticky.

Fair enough, however, many visit various threads occasionally.

Of course, that would be absurd!!

Also absurd, and not what I was looking for as a solution.

You have got to be kidding me. I've been seeing this one for years and have always thought it was some sort of browser bug with posting unicode text or something equally bizarre.
I'm not sure what shocks me more - the fact that I could have gone that long without picking up on that, or that someone on the Internet actually knows wtf a semi-colon is used for. :haha:
I'll join furry's pendantism in pointing out that the correct translation for that one would be "Too long. Didn't read".

And pendantism would be? To act like a pendant, to swing back and forth?
Sorry, I couldn't ignore the irony ;)

Back in my university days, that stood for Anyone But Commerce.
The mgmt school types used to have their own snooty, suit-and-tie type events, and were very exclusionary. So, every single other faculty barred them in response :P

A few years back when Klein was running for premier the first time, ABC was commonly used as Anyone But the Conservatives.

I can mostly figure out what's being talked about when using acronyms, etc such as EAP, SLRT, etc, but here's one I don't know: IIRC. I see it being used not as a place name though. Help?
