Here is a question for you Ontario/Toronto people. Any of you have reccomendations for good restaurants that are not to expensive, in the south part of downtown Toronto within or within close walking distance of the CBD/Financial District?????

I had to organize an event which includes dinner in the CBD area, and while I finally did figure out a place, I had a really hard time finding a restaurant in the CBD or great CBD area which I would say runs east and west of King and Bay to the theatre district and to St Lawrence Market.

I am downtown every single day for work and school, yet when it comes to restaurants I always draw a blank for this section of the city.
For the core of downtown it just seems it is really really expensive restaurants in the CBD or Entertainment District, or nothing at all.

Anyway if any of you have any hidden places you know about, etc or have tried and are good, lets hear them.

I have to say, as big of a downtown booster as I am, I often end up going out to eat on The Danforth or Queen West, as I just find the selection and patios so great.
But it would be nice to know of more places in the core that are not national chains. Considering how much time I spend down there I should know.

Anyway lets hear your reccomendations.

can't think of any although I don't spend enough time in the CBD to know even a quarter of all its secrets. I imagine the dynamics isn't there even for a restaurant that functions on a high turnover rate. The rents are just too high.

I thought you liked Marche.

A new restaurant opened in the concourse "Eatery" level of RBC Plaza named "Le Pain Quotidien". Kinda pricey, but not break the bank / Canoe pricey. It's mainly a lunch place though but all foods are organic and made inhouse. Try the smoked salmon tartine or the shrimp salad.

I have a hard time figuring out how a restaurant can be "evil" so I doubt there are any good restaurants either.

Pain Quotidein is Belgian, it has dozens of restaurants around the world. It's very well known.

My favorite has always been Benihana's in the Royal York Hotel.

Entertaining chefs cook your food right at your table.
