Hey

Im new here guys, and thankfully I am not a real engineer. Few!
I am in my final year of Civil Engineering and was just looking for some help or if you could point me in the right direction. I was looking around your forum and its seems to be pretty cool - ill be frequenting a bit more in the future!

Ok so basically its a case study where I have to design two identical high rise structures.

There is a 5 storey retail podium and built on top of that is 75 storey skyscraper which is 280m high.

I was wondering if you knew of any really good website/e-journals which I may have access to/publications etc etc which would have relevant information of the design of a skyscrapper.
I was looking around on the Institute of Structural Engineers etc websites, but I really couldnt find anything useful.
Any ideas where I should start?

Some of the things which I have to are:

1. Suggest a lateral load resisting system.
2. Estimate main member sizes to resist gravity load resisting columns at ground level.
3. Suggest construction method for a typical floor
4. Indicate the overall best construction for the building etc
5. Comment on wind loads etc.

Anyway if anyone can help me out please post up, or pm me

If you would like to see the assignment send me a pm and ill forward it to you.

Thanks very much

welcome to the forum. I think you'll find this a good resource and a starting point for research items like the one you're posing.
There is an organization, of which I am a member, called the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. Here is their website: www.ctbuh.org.
They are based at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, which has one of the premier architecture programs especially for the study of skyscrapers.
Hope this helps. Please post your progress!

Would www.emporis.com be a help to him?

The CTBUH has some excellent references for structural systems, etc.

The answers to your questions are specific to the style of building, materials used, occupancy, and geographic location (esp. seismic).
