View Full Version : Skyscraper too busy messages

Am I the only one growing increasingly frustrated by those 'high traffic, try again later' messages?

I'm glad to see more and more people using Skyscraper, but I'm finding there are more and more times when I can't access, or lose posts due to high traffic.

What's going on? When will they up their systems to accomodate the increased user load?

Rant off.

It's really annoying. According to the admins, there is a server upgrade coming soon. Personally I think there is something wrong with the database because the busy message comes up even early in the morning when there are few people using the site. I'm sure everything will be fixed up when they do the upgrades--but I don't know when that will be.

Agreed. Especially the lost posts. My reply to your last PM got lost in the shuffle and I never got around to resending. Sorry if you thought I was ignoring you. :)

Oh, I did take it personally. Not really.

No worries, and no need to respond to every PM.

It is because this site services such a large portion of people...we Hamiltonians are only a small portion of the forum population. I set up a forum at http://template.startlogic.com/hamiltonspeaks if you want to post there.

In fact I urge you guys to join there...lol...because as long as time permits (university keeps me busy) I have some big plans for the forum (as well as a site I am going to build).

I wished they would split it. East Asia under one site, Europe under another, North America under another etc. Then there wouldn't be so many on just one site all at once.

theres a thread already here regarding this and yea its a pita... i also think its to do with the rest of the site not just our forum remember theres a worlds largest skyscraper diagram section and with recent right ups in the natpost and such traffic has gone up.....

Hey man... I tried this a long time ago with www.hammerboard.ca but people just don't switch boards - it's pretty understandable. I myself post more here than I do on my own board! You just have to try and hopefully a new and different community will build there (with some overlap of people of course). I even set up hammerboard to not require registrtion in the hopes that people would post 'cause it's easy, but we are all kind of set in our ways and dedicated to the communities we have already built. Unless you can orchestrate a complete forklift of an entire community, it's going to be tough.

These server busy messages certainly suck though - I'd love to see this all move to a more reliable site but it's unlikely!

The site became unreliable like this last year, they upgraded the server (the forum got its own server separate from the diagrams I think) and all was well until the last couple weeks. It will get better.

I haven't gotten the message in a few days now, so it seems to be all fixed now.

It should be good for a while, the site is running on a new server.
