The grounds of the Leg. are on the banks of the Assiniboine River. The riverwalk leads several miles down the river to the Forks district. The Assiniboine freezes solid and becomes the 'Worlds Longest Skating Rink'. Although this claim is still up for dispute, from several other cities, but lets just say it's long and popular. Seven or more kilometers if I remember. This was a walk for the cure march by the way...

The Forks archeological dig which has since ended, will make way for The Canadian Museum of Human Rights. An amazing 30 story structure spearheaded by one of Winnipeg's most influential and philanthropic families. Regardless of your view of the structure it will be amazing. I for one am all in favor..

Very nice set, Ken. I find Winnipeg a very difficult city to capture in 50-100 photos or some set number. Although, I guess most mid-size and larger cities are of that nature. Great sampling of a number of different areas and features of the city. The Fort Whyte shot is not one often seen on these boards, and I believe, a radically underrated and undervalued part of this city. As well, the Lockport shot was also nice. Not something often seen on these boards. I always look forward to your work!

Wow I absolutely love this photo of the Hydro building. It shows off how clean and crisp its edges are, and it doesn't appear bulky. The skywalk is pretty gross though, but what can ya do.

Agree completely, I hadn't been to Fort Whyte in years, alot has changed, it's now connected to Assiniboine Forest and Park via a pathway. Still has much more potential and if it wasn't for the new multi thousand sq. ft. homes on McCreary and the concrete plant you would get an even better natural experience. But pretty good considering it's within city limits.

No, it is more to do with vibrance, youthful spirit etc. I know like most slogans it's lame. But for the record Manitoba has some oil but not the massive reserves that are west of us, and we are more a consumer of beer rather than net exporter.

We do have very large hydroelectric capacity however, and send alot to the US, which ties in with the energy part, I guess...

We are a large exporter of Canola (and from time to time, when prices are attractive, sunflower seed) oil. The first variety of Canola was developed at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
