I believe the counter only updates every hour... we might've already reached 20000.

10.000 ?? Drawing or Structure ....??

right "now" we have

20.161 Structures

but only

10.730 Diagrams ( including doubles - excluding unapproved )

that means 50% of the Structures in the Database have no Drawing ...

i can remember, that in March there were 173 Structures without a Drawing ...

Editors should imo stop those additions when there is no Drawing announced

Buck
Oct 11, 2003, 5:26 PM
Also, we only need 3 more photos in the gallery before we have more photos than diagrams.

I think we should have a state a week. Stop adding buildings and for one week drawing nothing but buildings in that city. And the person with the most drawings in a state can get a reward.

Buck
Oct 11, 2003, 5:27 PM
Marco- we have over 12000 drawings actually.

:dunno: I dunno....the qualities might not be very good if we reward someone based on quantity.

M. Klatt

quantity as base is the worst what could happen.

Wha should i spent 3,5 hours for a mid-size Highrise like http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?b23699 ( in the unapproved at the moment ) when i could do the same as "Cartoon" in 5 Minutes to win a prize ???

yeah!

10.730+4.546 deleted = 15.276 ...

No, look on the main page. You aren't always right Marco. You might want to start considering that someone other than you can be right too.

"12753 drawings"

the reason why we dont stop adding is because it is a database too, its not only for diagrams. It is a database of structures!
And i wont stop adding unless Dylan tells me too, and thats that.

Buck

Paulius, I was wrong- it updates with every building. I added 19992. :)

• The counts on the website's mainpage are updated every hour. The structure count is at 19,998 as I write this. This number includes all structure types of all statuses (including fantasy, which I am going to go remove so the count will now get lowered a bit).

• Marco, please understand that it is still good to have buildings in our database even if we have no drawing for them. I am working on a new search system which will not display these "blank" buildings in the diagrams, and having lots of extra buildings means there are buildings people can do drawings for withough having to wait for or request an editor to add the building for them.

• We actually have less than 10,000 buildings drawn (although this stat is not shown anywhere on the website).

• skyscrapers.com has 76,811 skyscrapers (highrise buildings of all statuses), http://skyscrapers.com/re/en/bu/sk/

The building ID number does not indicate how many structures are in the database. Every building entry into the database gets a unique building ID number, so if a building is later on deleted the building ID numbers will not be the same as the count of all buildings/structures.

There is a range of 500 consecutive building ID numbers that are nonexistant because I was fooling around with the database once.

Have a look at all the building ID numbers which are going to be deleted, http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?buildingspending

The count was lowered from 19,998 to 19,974 when I excluded fantasy buildings. We have 30 fantasy buildings, so someone must be adding buildings right now!

If that is the case, I should start making rough sketches of some skyscrapers that pop up in my imagination, and if and when I get permission to post attachments, I'll start posting my rough drawings to give illustrators an opportunity to exercise their drawing muscles.

Dylan, Buck, since we have the Freedom Tower and the Libeskind buildings, why not add every one of the other proposed WTC designs and put them under the cancelled category? And speaking of the cancelled category, I just noted a mistake. The Centennial Exposition Tower of Philadelphia PA was not cancelled, it was built in 1876. What happened to it was that it was relocated to Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY, and remained there until 1911, when fire brought it down. It was America's version of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and if I find any pictures, I'll link you to them.

Here it is,

http://history.amusement-parks.com/Dreamland/Dreamland%20Panorama/dreamlandfromchutes.jpg

the building in the background is the exposition tower, and the one up front and center is the dreamland tower. Coney Island was once the brightest high-rise neighborhood in New York thanks to the early electric lights, until Manhattan started erecting its big buildings.

Here's a few better pictures of the tower from this site,

http://naid.sppsr.ucla.edu/coneyisland/articles/earlyhistory.htm

And to add to the cancelled category of buildings are one or a couple structures from this article

http://naid.sppsr.ucla.edu/coneyisland/articles/globetower.htm

They too are located in Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY.

The Centennial Exposition Tower that is in the database is, I believe, a different one. I dunno though- I don't know too much about it. Maybe BPP does.

I did do some research on the tower once I saw it listed on the database. It was put up here for the Centennial Exposition in 1876. After it was over they dismantled it and put it back up in Coney Island. Then the fire occured and it burnt down. Now that I got some good pictures I'll draw it. There isn't much information about it on the net. I had to go to the library (which is a first ;)) and look for information on it. The one in our database is the right one.

I don't see too many pyramids on the diagram. I mean, pyramids were the first tall man-made structures. The Great Pyramid in fact was the tallest structure in the world for 5,000 years until the Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889.

No, there were actually many structures that surpassed the pyramids hundreds of years before Eiffel was built.

-Old St Pauls Cathedral,149m to spire, built 1310, destroyed by lightning and the great fire of London.

-Cathédrale de Strasbourg,France. 144m to spire,built 1439. Still standing.

-Lincoln Cathedral Central spire,UK. 160m to spire, built 1311. Spire collapsed in strong winds. 83m of cathedral still standing.

- St. Nikolai,Hamburg,Germany. 147m. Built 1874.Still standing.

- Kölner Dom,Cologne,Germany. 157m,built 1880.Still standing.

And also the Washington Monument.

Yes all of them are in the database, only some have drawings though.
(lincoln cathedral is there, but at the 83m figure)

But the tallest of them all was the St. Olaf / Oleviste Church in Tallinn. It's height was 169 meters until lightning hit it and the tower burnt down, now it's only 123 meters. It was THE TALLEST STRUCTURE in the world for centuries. That's a fact.

The people who think they were built by aliens are stupid.
