I agree with every one else that the Hilton is down right ugly.

Anyways within the last week or so Halifax has had many new proposals come forward and if any of these make it through to construction we could begin dominating the list.

Downtown we have a 20 storey residential, a 16 storey, and the already approved Centennial project (two 27 storey buildings) proposed for the same intersection! Just up the street there is a 17 storey and 13 storey convention centre towers just announced and at in the beggining of the suburbs we have a 19 storey condo building proposed.

That's great news... at least there is some light in the midst of this downturn.

Niagara Falls is so tacky. :(

I don't think Las Vegas would even accept that thing.

Niagra Falls is tacky. It just comes to show what happens when you rely on turists too much. ;)

BTW because of unknown exact height I replaced the six storey Sayward Hill Tower IV (Saanich, BC) with a seven storey building I know is under construction in Halifax, Garden Stone Place.

So any updates anyone?

The taller "Balance at Dockside Green" building is 11 floors. The shorter building is 10 floors. And Bayview Victoria (phase 1) is 11 floors. Isn't Parkside 9 floors? I think so.

There's a big difference between proposed buildings and actual construction. Proposals can easily take years just to get approved in Halifax and then can kick around for years beyond that.

We'll see what happens I guess. If even a couple of those other projects actually happen they will have a big impact, and the current set of buildings under construction is fairly nice.

Yes I realize that.

I think when I said that I just meant that Halifax does have a few proposed that are quite tall. I didn't necessairily mean they will all be built (especially since I listed United Gulf which isn't looking so well).

I don't know if it was this thread it was discussed in but I think most people agreed to be flexible with the cut-off limit and if memory serves London was one of the CMA's brought up as being over half a million ...

It's mostly rentals going up. I'm not entirely sure why as it can't all be university related. Perhaps an overall younger population.

To caltrain Londons cma is 458 000 also the Reniassance is only 93.5m tall and to sacmano it's the baby boomers that are spuring alot of Londons constuction

It's older people. Most of Thunder Bay's condos and rental-to-condo conversions are aimed at the retiring baby boomers. The tallest proposal so far is a five storey luxury building that really just came out of nowhere a few weeks ago.

The Construction Progress

Project Management Update:

We are pleased to provide a progress report on "The Trillium"

In November 2008, our excavation was monitored by archaeologists. This was an interesting process, and artifacts dating through the 18th and 19th centuries were encountered. Plans are being made to display some of these artifacts in the Foyer of The Trillium.

W.M.Fares has the distinction of being the first company in Eastern Canada to use a saw blade attachment on an excavator. This saw was researched and acquired from a company in Denver, Colorado. It is 6 feet in diameter and has the ability to cut through rock at an amazing speed.

When the excavation aspect of this project is complete, the prepared area will be approximately 32 feet below ground level. To date we are at approximately 25 feet deep.

We are enthusiastic and excited about The Trillium, and are most pleased that our schedule is progressing as planned.
