Do they exist? I'm especially curious about around the Savvannah area. Georgia is one of those states that has a small portion of the Atlantic Ocean as its neighbor yet no one ever hears about its beaches. Does it have any worth noting?

The beach for Savannah is Tybee Island.

You'll find fewer over-developed beaches in Georgia, which is probably why you don't hear that much about them. You'll hear more about Jekyll Island, the former millionaires' hangout, or Cumberland Island which is a protected wildlife area and, as I remember, can only be reached by ferry.

the beaches of St.Simon's Island are great. And of course, Sea Island is very famous and luxurious. Cumberland Island is also fantastic. It's protected meaning no vehicular traffic and there are wild horses that live on the island.

Georgia has done a great job of conserving the character of its beaches. Tybee Island in the savannah area has a very cool retro beach town feel. To the south, the Golden Isles in Glynn county have a more upscale low key feel to them. Jekyll Island is a state park beach as well as cumberland Island. I think what theyve done is great. When you have the Florida beaches with all of the typical beachside development its nice to have a change.

I've never really thought of Georgia as having a traditional "coast line". When ever I think of Georgia the first thing that pops into my mind is Atlanta which is quite a distance from the coast. It makes sense though Atlanta-Atlantic Ocean.

Its seems like people, even natives skip Georgia's beaches all together for more known spots in Florida & South Carolina.

Are they really that desolate?

"Atlanta" is the feminine form of the word Atlantic.
we are around 3.5 hours from the coast.

The beaches arent "desolate" tybee island gets pretty busy from what ive seen Tybee has a very mid 20th century feel to it. A lot of the coast here is uninhabitable and with conservation efforts have been state/national seashores. The areas that are tend to be more luxurious such as st simons and sea island which are very wealthy areas.

Thats pretty far inland. Its about like Austin to Galveston or Corpus here in Texas.

I grew up in Savannah and spent many summers at Tybee. Now that I live in Mobile we see a lot of the beaches in Gulf Shores and the Florida panhandle. I have got to say that the sand is prettier and cleaner on the Gulf but there is absolutely nothing better than the sound of crashing waves on the beaches of Tybee. Tybee has restricted development and thus has kept the beach largely used by area residents. There are no high rise condos crowding the beaches like we have on the Gulf. Go rent a house at Tybee and be prepared for the best beach experience of your life.
