I was thinking the other day about how Canadian cities have changed since 2000 and wondered how many of the top 25 (in height) buildings have been built since 2000.

*info from emporis so likely not 100% accurate, but interesting either way.

Vancouver - 11
Tor - 10
Calgary - 4 (5 with bow)
Ottawa - 3
Edmonton - 1 (2 with EPCOR)
Winnipeg - 1
Montreal - 0 (u/c ?)

please correct numbers if you know they are wrong or inaccurate.

Are you including under construction? If so Calgary has 5 top 25's under construction, and 2 completed. The 5 towers under construction bump Arriva and Courthouse off the list. If you're not counting u/c, then you're right with 4.

When I saw Ottawa on that list, I thought that could not be right. What tall buildings does Ottawa have since 2000 that would put it on that list. Also, Edmonton's last office tower was completed in 1990 and none of their new condo towers wouldn't crack the top-25 since 2000 - would they? I'm surprised nothing in Montreal has been built for that list.

Using the Skyscraper Diagram database search
Country = Canada
Structure Type = Highrise
Status = Built
Minimum Year = 2000
Maximum Year = 2020
I get the following numbers....

Toronto - 13
Vancouver - 6
Calgary - 5
Mississauga - 1

Top 25 isn't even enough, thought going by number of floors we have one tied for eighth tallest (ATAC, 2003) and one tied for 9th (Professional Building, 2005).

They are 6 storeys and 5 storeys, respectively. :) The 33rd and 41st tallest respectively.

At over 500', Arriva 42 will easily make the cut for our top 25. Even Arriva 1 (~430') just makes it (although it'll miss it if you include the 5 biggies currently under construction).

Members of Vancouver's top 25 beginning 2000 (not including antennas):

Shangri-La
One Wall Centre
Shaw Tower
Bentall 5
The Melville
The Ritz
West One
Venus
Marriott Pinnacle Hotel
2 Harbour Green

Looks like 10 to me. But counting antennas would add Elan, so I guess that accounts for the 11 figure?

Future members of the top 25 currently U/C:

Ritz-Carlton
Hotel Georgia
Fairmont Pacific Rim
Capitol Residences
Patina
Woodwards
3 Harbour Green
(and Jameson House if construction were to recommence)

That makes for at least 7 new towers making it into our top 25.

Ok for Toronto off the top of my head:

1. King West 174 Meters
2. Minto Midtown 160 Meters
3. HVEIII - 154 Meters
4. ROCP - 153 Meters
5. West 1 - 149 Meters
6. N1 -
7. SP!RE
8. ROCP 2
9. Pantages 146 Meters
10. The Met 1 - 143 Meters

Ok I probably missed a tonne of buildings, so sue me!!

Aye, and Ottawa's top 25 range from 112 to 88m (approx.) It's not like it's hard to crack the top 25, but every new project downtown is usually under this 88m mark (to keep the table top skyline stable).

There has been a recent proposal for 2- 31 storey buildings, actually. Those would be in the top 25 for sure, maybe even top 10..
