Here is an update on this project, lots of work going on today on site.

A rendering on the fence at the site.

thanks for the update.

do you know if they are going to continue that nice looking sidewalk infront of Save-On-Foods onto this block. It would be a shame if it was not continuous.

and whats going on with MIKI sushi? Just tear it down already!!!

The Office tower is almost topped out, they are just forming the mechanical penthouse, which you can see in the picture if you look really closely just to the left of the pyramid shaped roof.

And from my best guess the residential still has a few floors to go, as they haven't reached the floors with no balconies yet, maybe 3 or 4 plus the mech penthouse.

Do you guys have the official heights and floor counts of these towers?

LeftCoaster
Jul 21, 2009, 11:52 PM
To be quite honest I dont think anyone here does... They certianly havent been discussed on the forum.

It should be available somewhere in the depths of the city of Burnaby website though.

it looks really dense now coming along hwy #1 when you hit that area

the little strip mall next to it has been completely redone and looks pretty good and all the spaces seem to be leased

its really adding a lot to that area and cluster

mr.sandbag
Jul 22, 2009, 3:52 PM
i believe the office building was to 13 floors and the condo 29, probably can count the office tower now to confirm

too bad they renow'd the strip plaza, maybe there are long term plans for the lot and it it temporary as it seems out of place if it stays like this for some time.

It's not just your opinion, it's reality. Aside from Silhouette Lougheed is the only area that hasn't changed much. Patterson, Metrotown, Edmonds, and Brentwood have all changed drastically in even just the last 10 yrs.

cambie street doesn't have much that's available for development, the one area that's empty now is the one accross oakridge, other than that probably marine drive.

why r ppl building short business towers rather than tall ones like the metro towers?

If anything, Burnaby has become the flagship of proper suburban development. How many suburbs have 4 skylines? Metrotown alone is equal to some million+ city centers in North America.

DKaz
Aug 19, 2009, 8:21 PM
I wouldn't call Lougheed a skyline yet, and there are still some very car friendly areas of Burnaby, but agreed they are doing a pretty good job.

I thought that Citi was only going to be 10 stories, slightly taller than Madison Centre across the street. Either way it's shaping up to be a good looking building. Once Nissan/Milestones and the old Canadian Tire lots are redeveloped, the area will start to really look spiffy. Too bad Shark Club is gone.

middle of the land????

Believe it or not but Metrotown has a comparable skyline (or lager) to that of Edmonton, Winnipeg, Quebec City, Hamilton, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Portland, just to name a few (and all I have been to personally, except Quebec City).

And 4 major pocket skylines are obviously Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed town Center (which is actually quite a vibrant place if you are into Korean stuff) and Edmonds.

I think the north Burnaby (Brentwood?) skyline is becoming much more prominent than Metrotown! Esp. driving in on the Trans Canada, it looks like Mississauga

Not so much to locals I think, but for the visitor I would agree cause it can be seen on the highway. Its got a ways to go before I'd consider a significant skyline, more towers are needed between Brentwood and Holdem (which are coming).

the 3rd tower might be put on hold - they might cap it and wait for the economy to improve - so it could be many years before we ever see it :(

Do the sidewalks along Lougheed (Madison Cnetre and Citi/Motif?) not line up with each other?

Do the sidewalks along Lougheed (Madison Cnetre and Citi/Motif?) not line up with each other?

For some inexplicable reason there is an execptionally wide grass median between the sidewalk and Lougheed Highway. To the best of my recollection there are not even any trees planted in that median. It almost strikes me as if the City of Burnaby's engineering department wanted to widen Lougheed but then was waved off after having secured the necessary setbacks.

Citi and Motif is setback enough so that Lougheed Hwy can be widened to 3 lanes westbound. I believe the renovated strip mall next door has been modified for the same. It's just Petro Canada that's in the way now.

Looks like the retail is all streetfront and there's no big box like at Madison Centre next door (last page bottom left shows retail floorplans)

From Hwy 1 - the condo appears to be the tallest of the Brentwood cluster.

There's a huge HSBC in the retail portion of the project (the large space just east of the office lobby) - see plan linked above.
A large backlit sign reading "Commerce @ Citi" has been erected above the entrance to the office tower.

The project overall looks good - except the siding on the retail portion is blue painted corrugated steel - looks a bit cheap compared to the finishing on the office tower (which looks miles ahead of the Madison Centre office building in terms of prestige)

... anyone mention that there' s a Fatburger next door in the renovated strip mall?

Excerpts from a post by Metro-One in the Post some pictures of your city! (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=117697&page=294) thread (thanks for posting):

Here are some Pictures of the area around Brentwood Skytrain station in Burnaby.

These were taken last week during the beautiful 8 day sunny streak we had during the Olympics. Around the Brentwood area the temps were around 15 in the afternoon during this sunny stretch. Nearly all of these towers have been built in the last 5 years.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2715/4399938749_8e39143b7f_b.jpg

With many more tower projects proposed and a possible mall renovation/expansion proposed I feel this area could become a very interesting urban environment, especially with the skytrain guideway running through it, over the next 2 decades.

We recently had the chance to see a huge sub-penthouse in the Motif tower. Weather happened to be amazing and I had the chance to capture some of the surrounding areas from above.

http://vuosiamaailmalla.fi/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/motif_subpenthouse2.jpg

The unit has 2200 sqft of living space and the entire unit is two floors. Especially the open-air living room is impressive.

http://vuosiamaailmalla.fi/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/motif_subpenthouse4.jpg

Also patio is just massive and spans two sides of the tower.

http://vuosiamaailmalla.fi/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/motif_subpenthouse1.jpg

Neighbouring Solo towers do tower over the 29th floor unit, but the view is still nice and open. What a weather!

And finally a view of The Amazing Brentwood. This cluster is going to be so massive once completed. :slob:

Wow.

It's crazy just how far Brentwood has come in the time period since this thread was started (in 2009?).

The pace of change is almost breathtaking looking at the then and the now.

You can even spot a 'Zellers' Winter Olympics poster on one of the SKytrain sides,.....just to give you an idea of how long it's been.

In another 5 or so years when both Amazing Brentwood towers are complete and the last two Solo towers are mostly underway (and possibly more progress on the Concord Brentwood front), the place will be completely unrecognisable from what it looked like at the start of this thread.

It's not fun to be house hunting in this absurd market, but at least there are some nice pictures out of it. :(

I was recently very close to seeing something very unique, but unfortunately the owner changed his/her mind and upped the rent by another $2,000, so I didn't even bother going. I still regret, as even if it would have been totally out of anything reasonable, the pictures would have been nice.

Too bad I already told the agent to shove it (figuratively). :haha:

LOL! This must be the most out-of-touch greedy-ass ad I have seen in a while... Someone is trying to rent a penthouse unit in this building for $8,000/month!! In a 15-years-old tower in Burnaby!! Supposedly it is so "custom tailored" that they didn't even bother posting any pictures of the unit itself. :haha:

What a BS ad. A similar size penthouse unit in a similar age building in the area was recently renting for $3,500 and even it took a month to rent out. Some landlords are just special kind of...
