Natchez Trace Parkway

The Natchez Trace Parkway is a 444-mile long, limited access National Scenic Byway which begins west of Nashville and ends in
Natchez, MS. The parkway follows an historic route between the Cumberland Plateau and the Mississippi River which was first
used by Native Americans and later by white settlers in the 1700's and 1800's. Construction of the parkway began in the 1930's.

The Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge, located near the parkway's northern terminus, is the nation's first segmentally constructed
concrete arch bridge. Completed in 1994, it has a span of 1,648 feet and rises 155 feet above the valley below.

Jackson Falls is accessible via a steep, but paved, trail. Despite all the rain that fell that weekend (especially earlier
that morning), the falls were merely a trickle of water when we visited.

This is the James K. Polk Ancestral Home--the only remaining residence of the 11th U.S. President apart from the White House.
His father built this federal-style home in 1816 while Polk was attending the University of North Carolina. Upon graduation
in 1818, Polk returned to Columbia and lived here until he married in 1824.

married sisters lived here at different times.

Nice shots. I have only been to Columbia once and that was when my alternator failed while driving to Birmingham.

Beautiful country...
