Richmond District?

Yes. So-called "Outer Richmond".

Into the Pacific Heights area now.

This isn't actually Pacific Heights. It's a little known and very exclusive neighborhood called Presidio Terrace. And did you photograph that house for a reason (something your guidebook told you about a former owner perhaps?)? Being Canadian, you may not even know the name but that's the home for many years of former mayor, now US Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Incidentally, fantastic shots once again--and once again, especially the night shots.

What's the deal with that giant, windowless... church?

That's the Cathedral Church of St. Mary of the Assumption (St. Mary's Cathedral for short)--the local Catholic Cathedral. It's by a starchitect of his day (1971), Pier Luigi Nervi: http://www.GreatBuildings.com/architects/Pier_Luigi_Nervi.html
In a recent article I posted ( http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=136313&page=10 ) about Oakland's new Cathedral of Christ the Light, St. Mary's was termed one of "the three most imaginative and successful modern Roman Catholic cathedrals in the country" (obviously a matter of opinion and it isn't universally liked even in SF). It's not actually windowless. It has small windows on the ends of the cross giving an interesting effect inside:

I went by there on the Tuesday (first full day) on a car tour of the city and the guide said that a senator lived there at the moment (guess his info's out of date?). I didn't know the name, and I don't recognize it now, but I was biking along and recognized the Synagogue so I decided to bike in where the car couldn't go before because of the gate and snap a shot.

2 more, one's already up.

Interesting place... cathedrals are always a little too gaudy for me. Just from everywhere I noticed these large blank silverish walls sticking up from the city and I didn't notice until a close inspection of the photos that there was a cross on the top.

Yup--out of date. Here's her new crib:

And here's why a lot of people, even non-Americans, know of Feinstein:
