It took a very long time but according to the 2008 employment survery done by the City of Toronto, downtown Toronto has seen its employment levels rise and finally pass the 1989 level of 418,000 workers.
In 2008 downtown Toronto was home to 424,900 workers. As was stated more people finally work in downtown than in 1989.
Over half a million people work in the downtown and Yonge Street corridor up to North York Centre. With 34,600 people working in North York Centre, and 31,500 in Yonge-Eglinton. There are a couple thousand that work in the Yonge-St. Clair area and Yonge corridor outside the centres.
