Went out for a bigger walk on April 10. Tried to time it so I would arrive back downtown at sunset. The weather started quite nice and warm, about 16 degrees C.

Thanks everyone...

Edmonton's downtown looks dynamic and growing.

Not as fast as we would hope but, we're getting their slowly. Other than Stationlands Epcor tower we've not much office constuction, but there is still lots of condo towers on the outskirts of DT u/c or planned. Also, our first significant LRT expansion in ~10 years is about to open, so we are excited about that.

^To add, the Edmonton Oliver district just west of downtown is full of high rise residential. It has a population double downtown and has a lot less office towers. It is kinda similar to the Beltline in Calgary but not quite, there are more towers I believe in Oliver. Anyways there has been a lot of construction in the Oliver area. Railtown (though nothing to be too proud of), Meredian (again pretty ugly), Venetian (puke!), Panache Condos, Grant MacEwan Residence, the Parliament, Lessard House, Illuminada, Illuminada II, Serenity, Uptown, as well as small infill and a few other proposals like Pearl and Concert development. That area is growing just as quickly as the downtown.

When engineers create art?

http://badcomputer.org/photos/EESWP2/dsc_1994_1.jpg

Its primarly used to demonstrate different kinds of structural (steel) connections. Look at it closely, no two connections are the same.

I think it's awesome. And unlike most public art, it didn't take a hundred grand of public funds to become some make work project for an otherwise hemp wearing, shampooless, unemployed artist.

Thanks for the info SHOFEAR,

I assure you the question was genuine, not a smart-ass remark. I'm not an engineer so I can't speak to its efficacy as a demonstation vehicle, but as art it's not really my cup of tea...

And why you gotta hate on the hemp? I wear hemp and I can assure you I am employed and also wash my hair.

I'm just cranky cause I'm studying for finals.

You should have wondered around campus more and got some shots of CCIS. Especially the NE side where glass is going up. You don't realize how massive that project is till you wonder around it.

Understandable...

And BTW, I did walk around CCIS and get quite a few shots. I took over 1000 shots this particular day, and couldn't post them all. Perhaps I will post a few CCIS shots to the Edmonton Construction thread.

^holy crap ... and people say i take lots of pics when i take 400/day or 2days.

He he, well I do it for two reasons, first, I subscribe to the 'Boomhauer' school of photography, whereby if you shoot 1000 shots, at least a few will turn out good, and also, I set my shutter release to 'continuous' and take 2-3 pictures for every shot I frame. Generally one of these shots will have that extra something to it...
