Also, where are the worst neighborhoods?
Is the crime rate increasing or decreasing?
Is gentrification/revitalization spreading from downtown to other neighborhoods further out?
Thanks:)

I hate to step in here before someone from KCMO can chime in...and I'll allow anyone to dispute my opinion which might be dated...
I'll leave the crime per/ and wether its getting better or worse up to someone else, though, speaking generally as a one time resident of KCMO, there are similarities between KCMO south of the river, and StL City crime wise, without nearly as much bad press. Like St. Louis, I would not describe KCMO as a dangerous place for someone not trying to expand market share of illegal products.
Urban revitalization, as in St. Louis City, began not downtown but rather in the neighborhoods. It was only later that downtown began to see revitalization. The most depressed neighborhoods in KCMO are on the east side of the urban core, primarily east of The Paseo, south of the river.
True gentrification in KCMO might be roughly described as an expansion of The Plaza into middle income apartment and bungalow neighborhoods immediately north and south of Brush Creek and maybe a solidification of KCMOs traditionally upper income urban/"sub" urban neighborhoods south of the Plaza, west of Troost. Midtown, while improving, is hard to classify as "gentrifying," with such a diverse mix of people and a very entrenched "counter culture" presence.
Kansas Citys revitalization might be described as "multi-nodal," even within downtown, instead of a central point of "impact" such as the CBD or a "silver bullet" such as the Power and Light District, with wildly different economic circumstances and parties involved.
