It's because people that LIVE IN NORTH DELTA = living in Surrey.
The main difference in everyday life is the garbage collection days :haha:
Hey, I used to live in Surrey =]

honestly..surrey has the weirdest boundaries ever....

half the boundaries are in built-up areas, but yet, there are 3 distinct built up sections of surrey.

1) newton/whalley/city centre/guildford/fleetwood

2) cloverdale (which could be part of Langley pretty much

3) south surrey

dont get me started on white rock..haha.

May 5, 2009, 4:41 AM
thats how cities start

at one time commercial drive was a "suburb" of Vancouver and collingwood was a later suburb

eventually with growth they grow together

Whalleyboy
May 5, 2009, 5:03 AM
cloverdale could never be part of langley!
its where surrey first true centre was
infact its where most of surreys history is
heck even are mayor is from there

I always saw North Delta and North Surrey as effectively the same, Cloverdale and Langley as a second area of similarity, and South Surrey/White Rock as a third. Those three areas would probably benefit greatly from a planning point of view if they were to splinter into three separate municipalities.

Whalleyboy
May 5, 2009, 6:45 AM
i dont think south surrey would go to well with white rock they'd would never let grandview become what it is becoming

May 5, 2009, 10:36 AM
^I don't see that as a problem. So far I'm not a fan of that development. It may offer better retail options than anywhere else in the area and have some new apartment blocks but it is still planned around car use.

All that aside, if South Surrey and White Rock were together they could form a more cohesive plan for Semiahmoo Town Centre which serves as the peninsula's downtown ("uptown") and yet is split down the middle by the municipal boundaries.

See, this is where you're wrong. Surrey is US and Delta is THEM. You would do well to learn these striking differences and learn them well.

And now if you'll excuse me, I'll be returning to my hatchery in Northern BC... :p

Agreed. They should make that area into a transit-oriented development
:haha:

translink doesnt care about suburbs all that much let alone a suburb of a surburb=P

Yea, when you see the buses running on Hwy99 to South Surrey...they are all the old ones!

Whalleyboy

i thought they just looked old but there coach style buses i remember seeing the ones on king george going to white rock they got the big padded seats like on grey hound

Kinda unfair that only Vancovuer and Burnaby have the trolley buses. Surrey should invest some money in those since there is a demanding ridership.

SpongeG

newer typical development - parking is bad - i suspect its because most of these houses have 1 or 2 suites in them and along with the owners the renters need parking too

Here are some pics of the new developments in Cloverdale Downtown:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3355/3632019994_4f3bd9612f.jpg?v=0
Two mid-rise condo projects in Cloverdale’s historic downtown are nearing completion. West on the Village Walk and Clover Downs Estates are both part of a strategy to increase the number of residents within walking distance of the downtown to bring back activity to the commercial core.

A number of other lots in the downtown, including the City owned Safeway site, are up for sale. Presumably, based on the success of these two developments, we can expect to see more density coming soon to downtown Cloverdale. Keep reading for more pictures.

Intriguing, historic, and fascinating sets of pictures all!! Super stuff!!

What I notice about Surrey that seems to cause it to retain its "ugliness" is the telephone poles on most of the main roads. If they could have underground wiring, and nicer finished curbs, it would make a colossal difference.

neat pics

I believe they used a suspension thingy to support the bridge during construction. Once the arches were finished, the suspension system was dismantled.

that would be the old alignment of Fraser Highway meeting King George. Pretty much that intersection is where King George Station is now. Fraser HWY used to meet KG at an angle.

The rest of the pictures - I have no clue, but if there's more - I would love to see them.

actually those dual left turns where on to where fraser hwy use to be. So in away its the same thing still. but that picture shows why king george is so wide around the skytrain station
just noticed was already beat to that

also the picture with the wire lines is not in surrey i believe that coqutilam

some of the photos is the buy low or what ever its called now its around king george and 105 a ave...i think
