For those who don't know the ferries can only take the amount of people they are licensed for, at sailing time. The license is based on number of crew. ie the ratio of crew to passengers.

It is comes as no surprise that they had issues for the May long weekend. The summer schedule doesn't come for a few weeks after and they would have to hire and train the extra crew just for that weekend.

What is surprising is recently a sailing could not even get a B license let alone an A license and left 150 people behind. (note: the gulf islands route crew are based on Salt Spring)

This is before the summer surge in passengers.

If there were a bridge... nevermind. ;)

I'm surprised that they wouldn't be able to get enough people.

Those are pretty sweet jobs, people would be lined up around the block to get them in this economy. My thoughts:

1. Supreme dis-organization among the management at BC Ferries.
2. Supreme dis-organization in an attempt to "protect jobs" at the union for BC Ferries.
3. Both 1 & 2.

When I read the topic I assumed this was about the incompetence of most of their employees. :haha:

Sadly I'll be on the ferry tomorrow....
