They're up to about the 13th floor now if anyone has any recent pics. I'll try to get out there sometime to grab some... I'm really digging this project.

This is a great project for New Westminster. This reminds me of the Hudson project in Victoria which recently stalled.

The front pointing towards the river is actually curved into a bit of a rounded point. It looks pretty unique from all angles.

yeah, it looks really nice so far! Im a bit concerned that the finished product won't be as nice, but we'll see

The building is now topped out and has one level of glazing to go.

This building is stunning, the mix of new and old together really makes it feel very unique.

I don't know, it looks kind of odd to me.

I think I know what you mean. The hertige-y stuff and the sleek glass kind of don't work together.

I know that when this tower originally went to Council it was to be 22 storeys and all sleek glass. It was also to include several floors of office space on Columbia. The Councilor's got scared and made them shrink it down to 19 storeys so the office space got ditched. They also made them add the fake heritage stuff on the facade.

I don't hate it. It just could have been better.

It's an interesting building. When you walk by at street level, it looks quite "Heritage-y" (to quote Papertiger). It really looks like a new building that is made to fit into downtown New Westminster. From street level, you don't really notice the glass/concrete tower at the top. BUT, from my(surrey) side of the river, the building looks like a modern glass/concrete building and you don't really notice the heritage facade that you see when you're walking on the sidewalk beside it...

It looks great with the heritage building next door.
The new rec centre is going to replace those little buildings north of Columbia, and hopefully is it built to the same standard.

I really like this building. I am pretty sure that there is office space on the lower floors. At least it looks like it from the exterior.

Photos????

The commercial in the building is limited to the ground and , perhaps second floor. Everything above the lintel that runs the whole width of the building (with the marketer’s url on it) is residential.
It looks like office space because of the faux-Georgian office building façade that was glued on the outside (you know , the heritage-y stuff:tup: ).

Interestingly, from Begby and front street most of the podium is parking up to level six , I think. The Columbia side has a veneer of residential and retail.

It does, The developer restored that building for the salvation army, who owns it and has a thrift store and offices in it,to gain density for this project. It is the old terminus of the interurban line, hence the "Interurban" name for the development.

I've moved into this building in a unit on one of the upper floors facing west-southwest. Overall the construction seems good, however I have a few minor deficiences in suite that are being taken care of by the developer.

I love the view, there is so much to see. Boats on the river, cars going down both columbia and front street, the overpass going to quayside road, the skytrain station :D , and the alex fraser bridge in the distance.

Biggest pet peeve so far is that the train has woken me up at 3am twice now :haha: even with the windows closed I can hear him tooting as he approaches the crossing @ 8th street.

I know that I will be accustomed to the sounds of the city after a few weeks, and other then the train this place is much quieter then previous places I've lived.

ah yes the trains - i used to work in an office that was right on the tracks there too and the trains would rattle the building and they would use their horns a lot

There is a newly updated website for this building now ( http://www.interurbanliving.ca ) It is apparently 50% occupied, however including myself only 4 of the 10 units on my floor have taken possession.

It also looks like MAC Marketing have been brought in to push the final sales of vacant units.

Also there was an article in Saturdays Vancouver Sun about the building in the West Coast Homes section. A digital version of the article is here: http://www.vancouversun.com/InterUrban+pointer+West+revitalization/2591056/story.html

Blech. One on Craigslist asking $1500/month for a 2BR. I'd rather live downtown.

A brand new 2 bedroom downtown for $1500?? Good luck with that.

I also like how this turned out. Though I think it would have been better if it were a little skinnier and a little taller, which is actually how it was proposed originally.

Surprisingly Interurban looks best from across the river. At dusk/dawn, the south facing curved glass facade stands out quite a bit from the rest of the NW skyline, and reflects alot of light. It's too bad the north face of the building looks so jumbled.

Spork

But the north face is made up for by its comfortable and characteristic feel at street level!

Can somebody change the thread title to completed?

Here is one final picture of the building from Waves across the street. It gives a good feel for how it looks at street level (note that the canvas canopies over the sidewalk were ripped off in the windstorms a couple of weeks ago).

The same thing could have been achieved with modern design. Instead this building awkwardly tries to be something it's not.

I like it. Its not the best, but for some suburban infill I think its just fine.

I really like how it relates to the heritage building next door and how the condo tower grows out of the base. It sure beats if they just built the entire thing like a new building ignoring the fact that it's in the heart of the oldest city around.
