Any thoughts as to the population of Vancouver Island as of 2008 or even this year?
From wiki and other sources its 734,860 (as of 2004)...I imagine its added 10-20K by now?

only 6,000 more? that seems like a very small increase: 0.002% a year.

Courtney and Comox have expanded like mad over the past five years, so unless they were drawing numbers from elsewhere on the island, their growth would suggest the 763K figure as being more accurate.

I just moved to the Comox Valley from Vancouver so add another. LOL.
I think there is 60,000 people in the Comox valley now. That includes Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland, Royston, Union Bay, Merville, Black Creek, Denman Island etc.

The Comox valley record posted an article awhile back (about 1.5 - 2 years) that suggested within the next decade the pop of the valley would increase to around 130 000, though I don't now how far north/south their definition of the valley is. Some people in Fanny Bay consider themselves more a part of the Qualicum and Parksville are then the Comox Valley area, and it's current geography wasn't formed by the comox glacier, rather a large mudslide a long time ago. While Campbell River is technically in the valley formed by the Comox Glacier, it is it's own little entity to the north, both politially and economically.
