I did a little ride from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Duluth stopping along the way to capture some of the highlighs for you all.
Nice rainbow to start the day.

All was clear when I left Thunder Bay but as soon as I hit the border the fog started rolling in.

Some small Inukshuks that I found on the rock beach.

I have no idea what this woman was pulling out of the water and putting into a pail.

A small wayside rest with a great view of the lake but was too foggy to get a good shot.

An old fish shed called "Russell's FIsh" with a few Seagulls standing guard.

A tiny waterfall just North of Beaver Bay. It originates at Lax Lake but I don't see a name for the river anywhere.

On to Split Rock Lighthouse. Too bad about the fog, I didn't get great shots here.

The view towards the South from the Lighthouse. You can really see how ruggedly beautiful the shoreline is here.

Up the stairs shot.

The postcard shot. Not so postcardy today but shows you why they needed a light house here.

Made it to Duluth after about 5 hours. It normally takes less than 4 hours but with the stopping and fog it took a little longer.
This is the Fitger's Brewery which is now restaurants etc.

Due to the cold climate there are many indoor walkways in Duluth. Of course it was raining so many of these shots are from inside my car.

Nice pictures. When were these taken? That woman is wearing a sweatshirt on the beach. Then again, I hear that the Midwest is having a cool Summer like we are here, so that plus being so far north plus a cloudy day means that it might make sense.

Thanks for the comments.
That woman was out there at 6:30 in the morning and it was a little chilly. It is always cool beside Lake Superior but when you go inland a little it gets remarkably warmer.
These were taken yesterday July 21ST.
I wore long pants and it was fine until I hit Duluth and there it was pretty warm up the hill but by the water long pants were fine. It is always a conundrum about how to dress around here all year long.

Nice tour. I may be going there soon. Were the mosquitoes thick there?

I didn't notice many bugs while in the trails. There are some of course but not enough to keep you out of the trail.

Very nice. Always felt Duluth had an unique urban feel for the city of its size! Stayed at one the hotels by the lift bridge on business. Good experience!!

Beautiful scenery. I knew there were rolling hills in the area, but didn't know they were that big.

It's very likely she's looking for red agate. You'll see alot of people searching for it all over Lake Superior. It's actually worth some $$, and I'n sure very popular in arts and crafts purposes around there. If you spend an hour searching you are likely to find a few

Yes, how could I forget about Agate. There are many agate gift shops along the highway.

^^^^Awesome. Duluth has a nice looking downtown....it is a shame most American communities have forgotten how to build downtowns.

I had a nun from Duluth when I was in grammar school; she taught 6th grade.

Nice photos, I love the north shore.

Beautiful scenery. I knew there were rolling hills in the area, but didn't know they were that big.Eagle Mountian which is near Grand Marais and is the highest point in Minnesota has a vertical drop comperable to the largest of the Berkshires, which aren't really mountains but are pretty big hills. It would be the second largest "mountain" in Massachussets in terms of vertical drop.

If your Split Rock photo were a post card, I'd buy it. It has a haunting quality to it. Nice to see the scaffolding is gone.

I stayed in Duluth on the last night of a 2 week road trip to the east coast. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. I have been Duluths biggest Winnipeg booster telling everyone all about it and how it would be a good long weekend trip only 5-6 hours from the peg on decent roads.
