It supposedly is the biggest open air festival in Europe, although I'm sure the locals were exaggerating a bit, but the annual Zomerfeesten, or Summer Parties, draw over 1,000,000 visitors to the city of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The 4-Day Marches, around which the Zomerfeesten were established, are the largest walking event in the world though. Yesterday 40,000 people started their first day of walking and my Mom is one of them, for the 21st time I believe, so I was there for the umpteenth time too! Nijmegen was founded by the Romans and celebrated its 2000 year existence back in 2005. Currently the city has 161,000 inhabitants, with nearly 800,000 people living in the metro area.
