Wasn't quite sure where to post this, but the 2009 Alberta census reports keep trickling in. A new release just came out Aug. 8th, which includes Calgary and a number of smaller communities:

http://www.altapop.ca/

The City of Calgary is now home to 1,065,455 people according to its 2009 municipal census results. Alberta’s largest city grew by 2.2% over the past year, up 22,563 people from the 1,042,892 residents counted in 2008. Calgary’s growth rate between 2007 and 2008 was 2.3%.

Medicine Hat: 61,080 ...more at the link above.

The City of Medicine Hat counted 61,080 residents in its second census in as many years. The census showed its population increased by 654 people for a growth rate of 1.1% over the past year. The City’s 2008 municipal census recorded a population of 60,426.

Edmonton's official population was 782,439 on April 1, 2009, an increase of 30,027 since last year.

If my math is right that's an increase of nearly 4% which is either outstanding or a mistake. That's very high for a large city. I'm surprised you Edmonton forumers aren't all over this one and rubbing it in Calgary's face :)

The Capital Region is over a million people but the city itself is only approaching 800 000.

Why would we? Who cares?

Those are solid numbers, it's almost unbelievable. I moved here in '01 and it's weird seeing how much it's grown even now.
