"Globe & Mail" hands down! Calgary Herald a distant second.

I just read the local one. It sucks ass.

They don't update the fucking thing on weekends! It's as if all events cease for 48 hours so that their website managers can take the weekend off! And the website design is stuck in the late 1990s.

I read a digital version of the paper Calgary Herald most days. It's nice to be able to keep up with what's going on back in the 'old country'. :p

In an old volunteer position I had with a group called Voiceprint, I had to use the sites of every newspaper in Atlantic Canada.

The CanadaEast sites (Irving papers in NB) are great from a design/usability perspective, but seriously need to be updated for breaking news. We had 3 people die in a crash here last Friday night, too late for the Saturday paper deadline, and there was nothing about it til Monday.

The Halifax Chronicle-Herald site gets breaking news through the day, but doesn't look great aesthetically and searching for old articles is a pain.

The Transcontinental Media sites (pretty much everything else in NS, PEI and NL) look even worse aesthetically, and some of their content is behind a paid wall (it's 2009!), but they update breaking news, it's fairly easy to navigate and search, and they archive everything.

since i can't pick up dog poo, wrap fish or line the bird cage with the online stuff, they're all pretty useless to me.

For national news, Globe & Mail.

For localized news and events, Regina Leader Post, Saskatoon Star Phoenix, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, Calgary Herald. The subscription online digital editions get you local advertisements, which is nice to see and keep up on what's happening there, too, even if you can't be in all those places at those times!

Toronto Star has the best site. The Ottawa Citizen has lots of good blogs.

Toronto Star has one of the best websites for an online newspaper, bar none.

I read the Edmonton Journal too, but the Star is still better online.

Just like the Waterloo Record (http://news.therecord.com/). It's embarrassing that the headline story is often pretty lame, and small-townish too.

I tried using the Herald site for obituary searching (for the family tree) and it had nothing. I couldn't even get one from last year!

For current news though I quite like the Chronicle Herald and it easy to get your photos uploaded and onto the community herald (I've got a couple published).

Other than that Halifax News Net is helpful for very local stuff. :)
