I am a fan of Mikuni, but it isn't the only good sushi place in town... and I dunno if I would call it the best. Sushi Cafe on Freeport is pretty amazing, I think.

As for Burgers, I haven't been there, but I hear Squeeze Burger is pretty awesome. I've yet to check it out. My lack of a car has me handcuffed to the suburbs... :yuck:

Bucca Di Beppo is nice... I haven't tried much italian around town so I can't put it up for the "best" award. I think there has to be some hot little local Italian eatery somewhere in the city that boasts food better than that. One which only locals would know about... anyone?

Only in Davis? Does the new spot on R st. not compare? Or is it not even affiliated?

Best Burgers: I actually think Harry's on 16th has the best burgers in town.

Bust Sushi: Tamaya is pretty good. Fish is always fresh. Not really a sushi joint, but Kru has to be the best Japanese place in town, if not the best overall restaurant in Sacramento.

Best Thai: Boon Boon Cafe on Stockton and Broadway

Best Mexican: Lalo's

Best Pizza: The original Luigi's

Best Pho: Pho Bolsa on Stockton and Jansen Drive

Best Bahn Mi: Long's Sandwich on Stockton

Best Breakfast: Cafe Bernardo

I'll play along

Best Burgers: Squeeze Inn & Hefty Burger in West Sac.

Bust Sushi: Sushi Ya on El Camino.

Best Vietnamese: L' Orchid at Howe and Arden - now closed

Best Mexican: Kico's

Best BBQ: Kinder's - I don't know if there is a Sacramento Area location any more... used to be one in Roseville.

2nd Best Pizza: Zelda's & Alonzo's on Sunrise
I really want to support a local place here but nothing can beat Round Table... best sauce ever.

Best Other: Crepeville

Best Breakfast: Tower Cafe

The New Canton Restaurant, 2523 Broadway

In a previous essay I discussed the history of the 2500 block of Broadway, where the New Canton Restaurant is located, because it shares the block with Mexican restaurant Los Jarritos, featured in an earlier segment of “Around the World in 30 Blocks.” Also, I have already commented on how Broadway is a good location for businesses serving Sacramento’s Chinese population, given their strong presence in nearby neighborhoods and on the south side of the metropolitan area generally. That makes 2523 Broadway a good location from which to serve its well-known dim sum and other dishes to myriad State of California employees. From several Department of Motor Vehicles buildings right across the street and from other nearby offices, nearly 3,000 cubicle dwellers are across the street from New Canton’s bounty.
