voters approved a bond for a major aquatic center at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in Greensboro, NC. An addition construction will soon begin on the Atlantic Coast Conference Hall of Champions. Hall planners decided to go with the name "Hall of Champions" instead of "Hall of Fame". This should be a very popular attraction and will compliment the ACC Basketball Tournament and NCAA basketball tourney rounds at the coliseum.
Timeline:
Begin construction January 2010
ACC Hall of Champions Opening March 2011
Greensboro Aquatic Center Opening April 2011

The complex consists of a 23,500 seat area, mini arena, convention/trade show space and a 2,500 seat auditorium that hosts musicals and broadway shows. City leaders want to renovate the auditorium and future projects will include the construction of a large banquet hall and an additional 2,000 seats to the main arena giving it a seating capacity of 25,500. The complex is state-of-the-art and many don't realize the complex was built back in the 1950s. Over the years its gone through two major additions and renovations and its a testament that cities don't have to destroy old arenas and build new ones.
