These pics are from a dreary April day...I had some free time and decided to go take pics. There are approx 10k residents in EF, with Ed Rendell (and his kids) ad Arlen Specter owning homes here. (BFD, I know) It takes approx 10min to get to the core of the city by car. Both ends of the neighborhood are served by regional rail...getting you to Center City in 20min.

We border a huge industrial area in Hunting Park that was home to Budd and other big industry....which is being slowly re-devloped. Trump wanted to put a casino on a small part of the land, but all neighboring communities fought it hard. Tastykake and Pep Boys have been her forever....but Tastykake is moving to a more modern location (with tax incentives) at the old Naval Yard. Peps is still here...but I think they will go too if they find the right deal. (and manage to sell their hulking old building)

Here is what Wikipedia thinks of East Falls (ignore some of the fluff...whoever edited that last forgot to take their realtor hat off)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Falls,_Philadelphia,_Pennsylvania

East Falls is a neighborhood in the Northwest section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. East Falls is located adjacent to Roxborough, Manayunk, and Germantown, and Fairmount Park. The neighborhood runs along a stretch of Ridge Avenue that is only a few miles long, along the banks of the Schuylkill River then extends northeast to Wissahickon Avenue. East Falls overlooks the multi-use recreational path of Fairmount Park along Kelly Drive

Before the arrival of European settlers, the Lenni Lenape Indians considered the lower Schuylkill River their home. The Wissahickon Creek runs into the Schuylkill here and today is included as a part of Fairmount Park, providing walking and bike paths along its banks. Wissahickon is a merging of two Lenape words: "Wisaucksickan" meaning "yellow-colored creek", and "Wisamickan" meaning "catfish creek". In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries "catfish and waffles" was a favorite food at the many inns and taverns that ran through the valley, and a catfish still serves as the weathervane atop the Free Library of Philadelphia Falls of Schuylkill Branch. East Falls was named in the nineteenth century for the river rapids that were present before the completion of the Fairmount Dam. It had earlier been known as Falls of the Schuylkill or Falls Village. In the 19th century, the Dobson Mills textile factory thrived there.

This is a fantastic neighborhood... I love that slight touch of Appalachia in NW Philly

And it's so cool that Rendell and Specter live there

Forgot these. The Falls Bridge c.1895

http://www.workshopoftheworld.com/fairmount_park/falls.html
The Falls Bridge that is still in use today was erected in 1894-95 by Filbert Porter & Co. It is a Pratt through truss bridge, pin-connected and with a secondary system of bracing. 4 To anyone crossing the bridge, it is evident that the overhead segments are exceptionally heavy. This is because the original design was for a double deck bridge, but the upper deck was not built. The original plan is an early example of transportation engineering with respect to the approaches to the bridge levels. 5 The bridge is 600 feet long, 40 feet wide, and connects Kelly Drive at Calumet Street with the West River Drive at Neill Drive on the opposite side of the Schuylkill. The abutments and two piers are of stone masonry. At the time of construction, James H. Windrim was the Director of Public Works and George S. Webster was Chief Engineer.

They lit just 1 side for now...

What's that supposed to mean?

What's that supposed to mean?

Most people who aren't familiar with the city think it all looks like Kensington. Hell, sometimes it seems that most Philadelphians think that the whole city looks like Kenso.
