Victoria really needs to share its secret with London.

Let's add to our list London's Crown on King 1 which is well under construction at 21 stories. It's in London resurging Old East. The second tower of the two building may start construction next year.
When Ren 2 and The Crowne are finished London will have 15 towers over 20 stories of which all but one are downtown/inner city and a total of 191 buildings over 10 storeis.
Pretty damn impressive for a city of just 380,000.

The most ironic thing about everything you said is, when you're on the 401 and you're driving by London it's like 'where's London? I can't see it'.

:previous: I grew up in Woodstock and alwaysss loved tall buildings. I would have to look so hard from the 401 to see the core but if you do look closely enough you can see 1 London Place and the TD towers at one point :p

Sask's tallest is in Regina and I don't think it will be taller than that. It'll be within 5 meters or so I think.

According to the promotional material wrapped around the building, it'll be the tallest building between Calgary and Winnipeg. I don't know how accurate that is though

Saskatchewans tallest building is the Delta hotel in Regina. The top 4/5 are in Regina.

This building will be the tallest "office" building but still shy of the Delta.

If and when Capital Pointe condos get built, it will be the tallest building.

What does the pedway on the Sydney building lead to? I'm guessing a casino?

Smevo
Jan 2, 2012, 9:32 PM
The pedway leads to the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre. The centre sees a fair amount of conventions come through, so convention guests will now be able to stay at the hotel and get to their conventions (or dinner at the restaurant which gets great reviews) without facing the elements. There is no casino on Membertou land (that I'm aware of) because they get a share of Casino Nova Scotia's profits from the Sydney Casino.

We don't have an exact height for most projects right now. There are three other buildings that could be the tallest when it comes down to height in metres;

Saint Lawrence Place - 12 floors (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=175890)
King's Wharf - The Anchorage & The Keelson - 40m/12 floors (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=139715)

^really nice Halifax and Ottawa pics. Would love to see some of final target renders for the other projects (like Regina, London and Sherbrooke's)

for Winnipeg, its still the Human Rights Museum/ Musée canadien pour les droits de la personne (pics on previous page courtesy of ammorand...hasn't changed much since then aside from more glass and a few small additions)

topped out at 100m

webcams:

eng http://humanrightsmuseum.ca/building-museum/museum-progress/construction-web-cams
fr http://museedesdroitsdelapersonne.ca/la-construction-du-musee/le-musee-en-progres/cameras-web-du-chantier

its not slated to open till 2014 now, but construction should be completed by the end of the year or early 2013

then this year we too will have an ATL hotel under construction ~20 stories and a 25 storey Apartment tower named Heritage Landing. I suppose once those are actually underway we can put them in, both should be starting in April I believe.

Beautiful tower for Levis but a potentially brutal parking situation.

Don't worry about that. The current situation is brutal (see here (http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=fr&ll=46.801808,-71.168952&spn=0.009841,0.01472&t=w&z=16)) but it is gonna turn into something very interesting. I don't know if any underground parking will be built, but the total amount of outdoor parking will be reduced. Moreover, the rue des Commandeurs (the main street of the campus) has been destroyed and will be rebuilt "outside" the campus (between the buildings and one of the parkings). This place is gonna be very pedestrian friendly in a few years.

Corrections:

1133 West Georgia (Vancouver's Turn) is now the tallest UC in Van at 188 meters.

You have no height listed for Mosaic Potash Tower in Regina when it's height is listed as 81 meters.

The Pearl is 113 meters.

Carlyle at Victoria Hill has been complete for years. The current tallest in New Westminster is Viceroy at 83 meters.

The office tower in Kelowna is called Landmark VI and is to be the city's new tallest at 81 meters.

Oasis in Coquitlam is estimated to be 120 meters to the pinnacle.

and you have 2 buildings listed for Victoria BC.

oh and I'm pretty sure Luxe in Waterloo is done. I think?

Fairly certain its a little early to put 1133 West Georgia back into the U/C pile since no work on the tower itself has actually resumed and they are only digging again.

The airport is closer to Dartmouth than it is to Halifax. If something that far from Halifax can count under its heading it, you may as well just list the dartmouth project as Halifax and eliminate Dartmouth as a separate category. Dartmouth isn't actually a separate city now anyway.

Excavation = UC... since Sovereign in Burnaby and half those other towers on the list have been on the list since they were just excavating, so should the Turn.

Though next year there will supposedly be a 30 storey building under construction in Halifax (Fenwick) and one under construction in Dartmouth (King's Wharf).

For now there doesn't seem to be an immediate successor to Trillium on the Halifax side, unfortunately. There are a couple of approved buildings that could be built but I don't know that they will. A lot of buildings in the Halifax area are right around the 12-14 storey range.

Well in that case hasn't the turn been U/C for about 5 years now?

I've had this debate on here before, so I wont venture down it again, but I do not consider digging a hole to be the construction of a building.

If I'm in the minority then so be it.

Most people do not consider digging a hole as part of building a building. However when presented with two options, either proposed or under construction, I suspect most will agree the heavy equipment and visible progress relates more with construction than paperwork.

"Under construction" implies progress and not a spoonful of earth has left The Turn's pit for the last few years.

I haven't seen one picture of movement on The Turn's site posted in this section.

It's possible since Fenwick has very low ceiling heights, but technically it is 32 stories rather than 30, so it may still be taller. It seems on average, a non-upscale residential building in Canada has floor heights of about 3.2m per level, so that would put it at 96m. :(

In the Fenwick report there's an elevation that shows the old and new rooflines. The roof looks like it will be going up by the equivalent of about two floors, or around 6 m. The height won't be changing much, but they are building an addition up the side of the building so it will be wider after the renos. I don't remember if they have officially settled on a height or floor count for King's Wharf. I could be wrong, but I thought one of the towers was supposed to be 34 floors.

The TD reno is also going to result in a pretty big tower by Halifax standards. Right now I don't really think of it as a "major" office tower but I guess it will be one of the larger ones after they add a few floors and about 100,000 square feet of space.

TD and Fenwick are in my opinion some of the least attractive of the prominent buildings. Combine them with the new buildings going up and the skyline should look dramatically nicer in a few years.

There hasn't been any work done on the Turn site since the project was halted, but now there is some recent good news:

Minor update - They blocked off a lane on Georgia Street today to crane in two big excavators and some other equipment into the pit of lost dreams. Work didn't start, but they had them fired up testing out the equipment.

I have to agree that given there is only proposed and u/c, that excavation does count as construction. it is actually physical progress.

Given that Vancouver's Turn has been dormant through the last couple years, it did not count, hence being listed as "on hold." Even a tower that is half built on hold does not count as the tallest u/c for me as well (if it happens to be the tallest project).

But, as of today, we now have photo evidence of digging occurring on site again today:

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w376/jimbo604/Mon%20Apr%2030%202012/IMG_1533.jpg

So, one could argue this could be Vancouver's tallest u/c again.

This photo was taken by Jimbo604 in the Vancouver section today.

Ritz-Carlton restarts in Vancouver
RICHARD GILBERT

staff writer

Holborn Group is moving forward with the construction of the Ritz-Carlton luxury condominium and hotel project in downtown Vancouver, after the project was put on hold during the recession in late 2008.

“We have everything in place to start construction this month (April), including all the permits and the plans,” said Holborn Group president Joo Kim Tiah.

“We will be working with PCL as the primary contractor. We have a little more excavation, which will be used for additional parking.”

Site work on the 127-room Ritz-Carlton hotel was underway on West Georgia for about four months, when work was halted in October 2008.

The worldwide recession and the softening of the local housing market forced Holborn Group to develop a new strategy for the new $500 million twisting tower designed by Arthur Erickson.

“Over the last few years, we have had to maintain the site and ensure the hole was secure,” said Tiah.

“We had tilt metres to make sure there was no movement for structural safety. We also did other work to remove water and make sure the hole was properly drained.”

The original plan was to build a 58-storey building, which included 123 luxury condos on the top 38 floors and 127 hotel rooms on the first 20 floors.

The building is designed to give condo owners access to hotel amenities like 24-hour room service, a concierge, housekeeping service and staffing for special entertainment events. The condos were priced from $1.4 million to $13 million.

“The biggest challenge was also the biggest strength of the building, which was to keep the exterior architecture of an iconic and distinct building,” said Tiah.

“The new plan will go down another floor because we have more people living in the building. We have 80,000 square feet more of residential density and the building is only 16 feet higher than the original plan.”

The ceiling heights were lowered on the new plan to help squeeze in eight more floors, but the building’s overall height increased by just five metres.

The cost of the structure was reduced by replacing the 10 inch slabs with eight inch slabs, which is the industry standard.

Holborn’s new strategy is to maintain a luxury design for the building, but also appeal to a lower segment of the housing market.

“We also redesigned the whole interior of the building,” said Tiah.

“To get an efficient design that works, the floor plans were changed on each floor.”

The original building had 30 to 40 different floor plans and the plumbing wasn’t stacked.

The new plan has smaller floor plans and a lower price. They also eliminated columns in the rooms to provide more space and used a shear wall system.

As a result, the number of condos increased from 163 to 290 and hotel rooms increased from 127 to 187.

The commercial density of the project will remain the same.

In February 2009, Holborn Group sent out a letter to presale buyers to inform them their contract had been cancelled and they will get their money back.

Holborn sold about 62 of the 123 condos, but these contracts were cancelled as the vendor needed at least 75 contracts for the project to be feasible.

The developer had the legal right to cancel the contracts.

So some good news there, looks like Van will be getting our second tallest finally. Keep fingers crossed. As posted before machines are already excavating on site for the extra floor of underground parking.

No known exact heights but Halifax's tallest should be;

30. ??m - 16fl - Craigmore Apartments - Halifax (NS)

This site has a Halifax address, is roughly the same height as our current listing and is having its crane erected today. :)
