If any of you live in the North East sector of Scarborough in or near the Morningside Heights area, please check out the following link and complete and get others you know who live in the area to take the survey.

We are trying to get some results together to present to the TTC, to try and get better bus services in the area.

Better buses for a residential suburbs that by the looks of things doesn't really need or want it?

Why not better public transit for, oh, I don't know, the neighbourhoods where people actually use it?

Even if it were necessary (which I can't comment on to any degree of accuracy) it isn't going to happen for a while. The TTC is in a bit of a financial bind that happens to actually be serious this time. I wouldn't be surprised to see reductions in service on select routes in a year or so unless something happens. Weird situation where they have funding for capital projects but the city has cut funds for operations.

Ummm lets see. A neighbourhood where 26% of residents take transit to work, one of the highest transit usage rates in Toronto.
Yeah people don't use it.
They only pack buses every 7 minutes.

I am doing a survey at the request from the community who does want more buses.

More people probably ride the Morningside Heights bus each day than all of Thunder Bay Transit carries.

I would not worry much. The TTC is in this same bind every year, screaming for more money.
It just is the same old story every year. How can you all of a sudden be in a $100 million dollar deficit when no funding has been cut yet. Really they need to get their books in order. No other transit system in the GTA has these problems.

I assume that's cuz no other transit system in the GTA is as intricate or has light rail or subway.

TTC needs to implement zones. It's kinda crazy to think you can get from one corner of the city all the way to the other corner at only $2.75 cash fare or $2.50 token fare.

By comparison with the inferior GTA transit services (and I really like this comparison when people whine about the price potentially going up to $3 (cash fare) in January):

YRT (divided into 3 zones)
"Cash Fare": $3.25 (1-zone) / $4.25 (2-zone)
"10 Ticket": $2.60 (1-zone) / $3.60 (2-zone)

Mississauga Transit
"Cash Fare": $3.00
"10 Ticket": $2.40

Brampton Transit
"Cash Fare": $3.00
"10 Ticket": $2.50

Durham Region Transit
"Cash Fare": $2.90
"10 Ticket": $2.63

Oakville Transit
"Cash Fare": $3.00
"10 Ticket": $2.55

That is true. GTA suburban systems have higher fares. Where they win out though is cheaper monthly passes.

And yes the TTC is a more complexe system. However at the end of the day, something has to be done on the funding front, and on the spending front. There are some areas where costs can be controlled more.
