Okay so I don't know the status on this project and it would be great if someone did, but I couldn't find a thread on here about it and thought it wouldn't hurt to make one. It was announced a couple of years ago and, again, if anyone knew more about what is going on, that would be great.

Here is the info on it.

And here is an article from two years ago talking about what they are aiming for.

McALLEN — Negotiations are under way with developers from Houston and Dallas over McAllen’s long-publicized plans to build a central park complex loosely modeled on San Antonio’s River Walk.

Envisioned as a mix of high-end boutiques, restaurants, nightclubs, department stores and condominiums, the retail complex would surround a 10-acre central park where residents could meet and congregate, hear street musicians or watch a theater production in the planned amphitheater, McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez said.

Good news for McAllen, the project looks great! Ive noticed McAllen being mentioned more often in the national media. Also makes me excited for Hemisfair Park redevelopment.

Isn't this thing pretty much dead in the water? I remember thinking two years ago it was too ambitious and basically a nice pipe dream.
