I was craving a plate of home style Ukrainian/Polish food this evening, after a quick online search, I came across the Ukrainian Village on Denman @ Robson. I read some mixed reviews and was a lil turned off by the price, but wandered down nonetheless.
I must say I was very much impressed. I received excellent service, the decor, well not modern and classy reminded me very much of a Ukrainian or polish home.
Food came out piping hot and full. I left with a very full stomach and memories of the grand parents. The only complain I have is the price is a little on the high side!

Do they sell perogies? Is that Ukranian? My friends Ukranian grandmother makes them, anyways.

I used to live right across the street from this place. I loved it. I also enjoyed it's neighbor Tapastree as well. Some good little restaurants in that area.

I've only ever been here once for lunch a couple years ago but I recall enjoying it. Definitely some good comfort food. I went there with a Bulgarian guy, Austrian guy, and Turkish guy. I didn't hear any complaints. And sure beat the frozen perogies I eat on a weekly basis.

There is an Indian restaurant that sells perogies and stuff on the block north west from One Wall Centre.
It was really good last time I went there.

Sounds like everyones Ukrainian grandparents made perogi's lol. Every family dinner with my grandparents consisted of perogi's.

Oh my, I have to question the authenticity of Indian made perogies...just saying!

Questioning that they're authentically Indian perogies?
Or Japanese curry, or American sushi. Just sayin'.
I should check this place out one of these days. Do they have lunch specials?

Japanese Curry is amazing, though :P

Hmm, probably the same thing Japanese or Chinese people would think of our concept of their food. :haha:
At least nobody can screw up our Maple Syrup...!
Ah yes, California Rolls and Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls, now there's some authentic Japanese and Chinese food right there. ;)
Now to show off my Viet pride, our food hasn't been Americanized yet. ;) Except maybe the Pho Garden Challenge in San Francisco... eat their entire king sized bowl (equivalent to three large bowls of pho) and you get it free... otherwise it's $22. lol.

Yeah, the Ukrainian Village is one of those older European restaurants with some good home-made chow. I always enjoy the place. It has that simple European ambience. Gawd, I now miss the old Schnitzel Haus on Robson Street as a kid.

That's something akin to John Candy's "Ole 96er" that 96-ounce prime age beef steak that he chowed down in the Great Outdoors. ;)

Spicy curried perogies sound like a great idea!
