There are Capitals fans in Edmonton? Seriously?
I saw Ovechkin jerseys at a Hitmen-Wheat Kings game last week.
It's hard not to like a team that has been one of the most entertaining for a while now. I for one was hoping to see the Caps in the final.

Yeah me too. I'm stunned.

im tellin you now
Besides the more probable Nucks vs Pens, I'd also say Nucks vs Habs :D
Just realised how much power the Sens and Habs hold... it's not very probable, but one of them could prevent another Crosby-Ovechkin showdown! I guess the NHL could lose quite a bit of money if it happens.
Oh well, the Habs just did !!

Didn't you say that last game?
Have some faith in your team, I think they just may pull off the upset.
I said this before the Canada-Russia game at the Olympics and Canada ended up playing their best game of the tournament.
Then I decided to say it before Game 5 and we ended winning. I wrote the same thing for Game 6 and 7 and we won both games.
So I'm now 4-0 when I say this.
I didn't tell anyone not the ruin my thing but I can't believe it worked 4 games in a row.:haha:

They are some of the most skilled hockey players in the world, but when the games are important they completely disappear.

^ Have to agree about Ovechkin, great regular season player but he really has a habit of disappearing when the going gets tough, ex. world juniors, Olympics, NHL playoffs. I put Crosby ahead of him for this reason alone, Sid the Kid does come through in big games like a star should.

I wouldn't write them off because a handful of bad game. Both played very well in the playoffs last year, they just got beat by a better Pens team. But when it comes to key games, Crosby has definitely shown more.

It's pretty high up there. Washington doesn't exactly play playoff hockey so it's not as high as Edmonton's first round victory for me. While Washington was a good team Detroit had more regular season points than them (124-121), better goals against (209-233) and very similar goals for (305-318). They also had Lidstrom on defense who was better that year than any defenseman on Washington right now. Heck is better now than any of them.

Does anyone get the impression Craig McTavish, Bob Mackenzie, et. al. just sit at the TSN hockey panel desk 24/7 during the NHL playoffs just chatting about hockey? Watch a game on TSN, they're all there during the intermissions. Watch Sportscentre the next morning, they're still there.
I realize some of the SC segments are pre-taped, but the way TSN does it makes it seem like they never go home to their families. I have yet to see them there eating chicken wings and drinking beer though.

No, they're not allowed to leave. They keep them in cages, separated from Pierre McGuire (upon request).
They are given cellphones to Tweet about hockey when not on TV, 24h a day.

Love the pictures from the Gazette of the celebration in Montreal, looks like a blast. Sounds like it was well behaved for the most part, with only a few idiots thrown in. This celebration, however, along with the 2008 mini-riot after putting out Boston, shows just how far the expectations have fallen in Montreal. It used to be a cup or bust, now there's joyous celebration at an impressive first-round upset. The Habs are now a mid-level team, but still have way above average passion from their fans.

31 blocked shots, second only behind the shot block machine that is Volchenkov.

And Halak is the MVP of the first round. When the Habs faced elimination (Game 5, 6 and 7) he stopped 131 of the 134 shots.
The Habs gameplan should be to let the Pens shoot and I'm dead serious. He is 10-0-1 when facing more than 40 shots.:koko:

Here's my predictions, otherwise known as the correct predications :)
Montreal wins in 7
Montreal is going to do what Calgary and Edmonton did a few years back; go on a Cinderella run. Even though they were outshot heavily, they actually played pretty good defense, not allowing many odd many rushes, and not allowing Washington many good clear chances close in. Their 'team play' is stronger than anyone else right now. Pittsburgh is more dynamic than Washington, so if anyone is to beat Montreal it would have to be them, but I think Montreal will squeak through this one.
Vancouver wins in 6
As I said at the beginning of the season, Vancouver is a better team than people give them credit for. Hawks didn't look great when I saw them against Nashville, plus Vancouver will be more motivated after last year.
San Jose wins in 7
I have a feeling they'll get past Detroit this year. If the big line gets going, and I'm thinking that they will eventually, SJ could be a real powerhouse.
Boston wins in 6
Savard's coming back, and Philly has lost Carter, Gagne, and LaPerirer. Rask has been solid. Boston looks kind of like Montreal, with a good team game, and good depth.
San Jose beats Vancouver in 7
Montreal beats Boston in 7
Cup predictions

Habs playoff hopes take huge hit as Markov felled with apparent knee injury
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - As Andrei Markov crumpled in the corner of the ice at Mellon Arena, the Montreal Canadiens playoff hopes may very well have gone down with him.
Markov was hurt a little over 11 minutes into the Canadiens Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night and Montreal never recovered, losing 6-3 in Game 1.
Canadiens head coach Jacques Martin provided no update on Markov's condition, saying he will be evaluated on Saturday.
"First of all we don't (know) if we've lost him yet, we just didn't have him tonight," said Marc-Andre Bergeron, who moved back to defence from forward when Markov was hurt. "I don't think I need to say how much Andrei means to this team."
Just after letting go of a pass up ice Markov was drilled by Penguins super-pest Matt Cooke with a clean hit, sending the Canadiens defenceman sprawling awkwardly into the boards.
Markov remained on the ice for several minutes as Scott Gomez went after Cooke at centre ice. Markov was eventually helped off the ice, putting no weight on his right leg.
"I didn't even see it," Gomez said. "When you see a teammate go down, it's one of those things. You react."
The Canadiens have not played very well without their No. 1 defenceman this season, posting a 14-20-3 record in the games he's missed. With Markov in the lineup the Canadiens are a very respectable 25-13-7.
Any long-term absence for Markov could mean increased minutes for rookie P.K. Subban, who opened the scoring at 4:30 of the first period Friday night with his first career NHL goal.

Markov diagnosed with torn ACL
It appears the Montreal Canadiens will have to make do without defenceman Andrei Markov for a while after he was diagnosed with a torn ACL.
Markov suffered the injury in Game 1 of the second round against the Pittsburgh Penguins last Friday when he took a big hit from Matt Cooke early in the first period and crumpled to the ice.
Despite news of the injury leaking out via a Team 990 radio report prior to Tuesday’s Game 3, Canadiens coach Jacques Martin said there was no update on Markov’s condition at the morning skate. He also declined to comment on the status of defenceman Jaroslav Spacek, who has yet to play in the series due to an inner ear issue.
One of Montreal’s top players and regarded as one of the top defencemen in the league, Markov has been replaced on the Habs blueline the past two games mainly by rookie P.K. Subban and Roman Hamrlik, who both played big minutes on the second pairing in the Canadiens’ Game 2 win Sunday in Pittsburgh.
Markov has battled injury issues for much of the year, and Montreal’s record with him in the lineup (25-13-7) was far superior than it was without (14-20-3) during the regular season.

The Red Mile is a lot more peaceful than most Canadian NHL cities. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_Stanley_Cup_riot) :P
Yeah, like Edmonton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Strathcona#Blue_Mile) :)

Now this is frustrating. I know the Cancuks enjoy toying with their prey, only to come back in the 3rd period to win it, but this is just rediculous. And the way Nemi is playing... I thought Big Lou was supposed to be the Golden Goalie?

Montrealers should teach Calgarians how to riot?:P
The 1993 Stanley Cup Riot occurred in Montreal after the Montreal Canadiens won their 24th Stanley Cup. Fans poured out of the Montreal Forum and began to commit acts of vandalism and violence while their team was celebrating inside.[1] In the epicenter of the riots, Ste. Catherine St., stores were looted and police cruisers were set ablaze. The riots caused $2.5 million dollars in damage.[2] At the high point of the riot 980 officers were dispatched and they made 115 arrests. The police reported 47 police cars damaged, 8 of those 47 cars were completely destroyed. Of the rioters, 168 were arrested after they broke windows, looted stores and set fires. Some of the rioters were suspected of planning to loot stores using the riot as a decoy.

3-2 at the end of the 2nd. Kesler made up taking a stupid penalty, which lead to a goal, by scoring in the final minute. But I honestly have to ask: what the hell did the refs smoke today? Chopping a stick out a hand isn't called? Running the goalie over isn't called? Dumping players to the ice isn't called? But god forbid you should wrap your arm around him and dance a bit...

Running the goalie? Surely you're not talking about Chicago's third goal, because there was no interference on that play.

No, before that when Toews decided that stopping wasn't really all that important. Afterall, there's this big guy with padding in the way who will make for a wonderfully soft and cushioned landing...
But with Byfuglien chopping Daniel's stick out of his hand at centre ice and no call? Not cool, dude. Not cool.

They just showed three replays of plays that the Canucks thought should be penalties. Had they been penalties, they all would have been very weak calls IMO. I didn't see anything blatant that the refs missed.
If your stick gets a little tap, and you drop it, that shouldn't be called, and wasn't.
What about Byfuglien's interference call? That too was pretty weak, and definitely should not have been a penalty. So even if the refs missed one or two, they called at least one that in no way should have been.

You might, maybe, possibly, could very well have a point there. But I'm finding myself with a burning hatred of Byfuglien and want to see him stapled to the boards hard enough that I feel hurt from watching it. And I didn't even know the man existed until Game 2 :)
