Parkside Village will include more than a dozen condo towers on 30 acres along the Western edge of Mississauga City Centre. Immediately to the East is the Living Arts Centre, City Hall, YMCA, Central Library, and several new condo towers that conform to good urban design standards.

Parkside Village is expected to have around 6000 condos housing 12000 people, approximately 400 people per acre. It will also include 50,000 square feet of amenity space, as well as retail space at grade.

Epic. Mississauga reminds me of Simcity for some reason.

I'm also probably the only person in the world who wouldn't freak out living in that subdivision next door and having awesome towers across the street. It seems like they need to expand that park and/or expand the school though to accomodoate the influx of people.

What sort of mass transit are they planning for this city? I hope they're not planning to support this increased density with only cars and buses.

You can see transit plans on pp. 48-52. And keep in mind the existing Mississauga Transit already does approximately 160,000 boardings per day.

That is definitely happening! The school park will connect with Parkside Village Park then lead into the new Community Common Park.

It is bad enough that Mississauga sprawled outward so much, all the way to its borders, but now it is sprawling upward as well. The sprawl just won't stop.

I spoke will an older (75+) lady who either lives on Wallenberg Cresent or on one of streets in between actually liked the project but was worried that the city was going to take their house away to be replaced by a similar project...I think she is just a bit too paranoid:) however I'm sure that there are few people who are not too happy...

Thx. That wasn't the old lady but she was definitely interested in what was going on. The lady I spoke was from a few months back. She moved here from Italy about 25 years ago and, at that time, other than the SQ1 mall not much was going on in the area. Among other things, she liked the development because it was going to open up the area which will allow her to walk through Parkside and Common park to get through to SQ1...

Crane! This project is freakin massive and I think its quite funny how right across the street theres just a generic crap suburb. Mississuaga is absolutely fascinating and should become an example for all generic suburbs and what they could become if just some effort and community involvment is put into action, well that and money.

When do they plan to give the mall the "Elevate lofts @ The Village" treatment or something like that? i.e. I'd have to imagine that a total mixed-use redesign of square 1 is in the works.

Or maybe that's just my crazy American mind that can't wrap itself around 40 story towers surrounding a classic exurban shopping mall.

Almost all malls here have residential towers adjacent and/or across the street. Sometimes they surround the mall on every side:

Judging from the example of MikeToronto's photothread about Mississauga in the N-Z section of the City Photos forum, this thread should be renamed "TORONTO | Parkside Village | Multi-tower | 6000 condos | 30 acres" since Mississauga is a suburb of Toronto, and therefore Mississauga doesn't count as a real city.

I searched photothreads about Mississauga and LOL. He even made a thread about Mississauga in A-M.

Anyways back to the project....

Will they build the 3rd tower right away (since it is on sales), or will they remain as high as the podium and be built later?

Cool to see the aerials, its so suburban looking. Each high rise is like single family homes with parking and a front and back yard. Cool towers though.

Each high rise may have parking, but the parking is all in underground garages directly beneath the buildings, not in lots or above-ground garages.

I can't believe they are building all 3 towers at once, its pretty impressive!

If the built the towers one at a time, it would take like 30 years. There are about 15 towers in the development, and a highrise takes about 2 years to build.

^ Better that they put it underground, though. Far better than the parking podiums we see in projects here in the U.S.

The super-huge site greatly reduces the construction cost of underground parking.

Yeah for sure, but still, the amount of parking should be restricted anyways so people use transit instead.

There have been one case where above parking garage was built in another condo projects in Mississauga City Centre due to technical issues, but the garage is very well hidden from the street, covered up by lofts. As long as it is hidden, and doesn't waste too much space, above ground parking is not necessarily bad.

I think though that developers in Mississauga City Centre, where land is more expensive, don't want to waste space with above ground parking anyways, but I could be wrong.

Would you rather they build above-ground garages like they do in most American cities (even in their downtown cores)?

No, I'm saying the amount of parking in Mississauga should be reduced. Why do think I am criticizing the concept of underground parking? There is nothing in my posts even suggesting that parking should be above ground instead. Seriously.
