Ok, I realize a lot of this has to do with the conference split, but still, this is pretty cool:
Philadelphia had been unbeaten in Vancouver since a 2-2 tie on Dec. 31, 1989. The Flyers, who were 10-0-4 in that span, last lost in Vancouver on Jan. 17, 1989, almost 22 years ago.
Wow. Philly has seen some shit years since then, and still nothing. Yet the 'nucks beat the hell out of them this year, one of the best teams in the league. Plus, that's gotta be one of the longest winning streaks in the modern league.
This might be an interesting season after all.

Go take a look at which other teams have signed players to 15 year, way overpaid contracts in recent memory. I can think of at least one other and they're neck and neck with the Devils for shittiness this season.
More specifically, I guess I'd just ask "what talent"? Brodeur is done. He's had an amazing run (perhaps the best of all time) but he just isn't that good anymore. Elias is well past his prime as well. Parise's been injured for most of the season.
What does that leave us with? Jamie Langenbrunner? Arnott? Zubrus? This is their "talent". Overrated and/or aged players.
I'm actually surprised Jersey was as good as long as they were, all things considered. But Brodeur was a huge part of that.

Spacek and Hamrlik are good if they play 18 minutes... 22 is too much for them.
Weber and Subban are still very young and have things to learn.
Gorges is currently injured and Gill is only effective if Gorges isn't injured because Gorges has the speed that Gill hasn't.
This is where Wiesniewski can "replace" Markov by eating up 23-25 minutes of ice time. This decreases Spacek and Hamrlik's ice time to around 17-18 minutes and they become 100x more effective.

The too many men on the ice is a coaching penalty because there was miscommunication between him and his players...

Oh come on. Montreal was winning 1-0 after the first period and TB got the powerplay and scored less than 3 minutes into the 2nd period. You attribute the turnaround for the game and momentum shift to be caused by THAT penalty... with 37 minutes of game still to be played? Really?
You can blame the coach for that penalty, but if something so minor and that early in the game had that big of an effect on the mindset and confidence of the players - then it's the player's fault.

If those two penalties don't happen, I feel quite confident the Habs could have won the game. Two bench penalties withing 45 seconds is a killer. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the two closest too many men penalties in NHL history.

I mean, us Flames fans still go on about 1989, the Leafs still hark back to their glorious 1967, and Vancouver won't let us forget about that one time in 1994.
Could you even imagine if any of us had anything *real* and recent to brag about? God forbid the Leafs ever do something, for that very reason. At this point if they made the playoffs CBC would produce a "made for TV" movie on it starring Mike Myers as Phil Kessel and Brent Butt as Dion. And sorry guys, my Canadian team won't be doing that for a long, long time. At least Stanley still gets to spend his Summers and down time in the great white North while not vacationing down South. Unfortunately Vancouver has a legitimate shot this year, with two solid goaltenders, once Luongo starts letting in 7 a game.

I'd rather any of the 24 American teams in the league win it, if my Canadian team doesn't :P And just because us Canadians are so insufferable when we FINALLY actually fricken do something.
They'd just be copying Calgary and winning it a year after they host the Olympics, I guess ;)
Agreed. It'd be like the Riders winning the Grey Cup, a lose for every Canadian who isn't one of their fans..

The Oilers should call up Souray just for this game so he can fight iginla and somehow break his hand again.

So both Calgary and Montreal won a Stanley Cup the year after they hosted an Olympics ? I hope that trend continues... :)

(cue Sesame Street music) One of these things is not like the other....

Remember Edmonton in the 80s? Yeah. Or as someone else pointed out, imagine if the Riders won a few Grey Cups in a row. *shudder*

Yup, give me a Stanley Cup in Florida, Atlanta, hell give Tampa another one before any other team in Canada either than the Flames... and maybe the Oil.

Flames are preparing to enter a dark age that will eclipse the 7 years of darkness. No sense in talking about them winning a cup.
Lets talk about teams that are relevant
Didn't know we had a fortune teller on the board, very cool!
Oh wait a minute... it's probably just another 14 year old punk!

Yeesh are those camera angles on NBC ever nausea inducing on a big TV.
CBC has the more traditional non-flying over the ice like a wild bat camera angles.

Man, I hate the fact that a game as good as Buffalo and Boston tied at 6 has to be decided with some stupid circus act. Off to the shootout...
EDIT: Sabres win 7 - 6, both goalies didn't make a single save in the shootout. Bruins missed their last shot.

Nah, just our resident troll. Who's already proven that he can't predict what's going to happen a few weeks down the road, let alone several years.
It's cute though, when they're proven wrong - but never have the balls to admit it. Even 14 year olds have dropped them. :P

It's either the "circus act" or no decision at all...

:P I'd honestly prefer no decision at all over a skills competition.
Jackman is on a tear! 1 - 0 Flames

Well, the Habs could break an NHL record this season.:P After 39 games, we still haven't been to a shootout. The record for fewest shootouts in a single season by one team is Tampa Bay with 3.
I'm kind of glad we haven't been to a shootout yet (50-50 or you flip a coin as some of you pointed out) but I really want to see Subban and his moves.
Do you guys think we could go all the way? 82 games without being in a shootout?:haha:
EDIT: It makes you wonder how many pts we could have had with the losers point...
Philadelphia: 4 S/O
Pittsburgh: 4 S/O
NY Rangers: 3 S/O
Boston: 6 S/O
Tampa Bay: 4 S/O
Washington: 5 S/O
Atlanta: 6 S/O

If they played a ten minute 4-on-4, I doubt many games would even go to the shootout. Or maybe 5 minutes of 4v4, then 5 of 3v3. That would be entertaining.

Speaking of CBC, or better yet Shaw... I love how the only HD CBC feed on Calgary cable must be from Taranna, cause the Leafs were in HD and then they went to the Winter Classic instead of the Flames & Oilers game!
and speaking of the Winter Classic, as shitty as the game was, 70k at Heinz was impressive. Thank Christ the Heritage Classic's only going to be broadcasted on Versus... I'd hate for to many US viewers to see the joke we call a football stadium here in Calgary! ;)

Yeah, I'm quite surprised / disgusted that Shaw doesn't have a western CBC like Bell does with CBC Vancouver in HD.
