But really this girl thinks Iginla will have 50 goals and Tanguay will have 73 assists. She also thinks that they will be champions again. Well, looks like she has another dissapointing year ahead of her. I'm a HUGE Flames fan but hey lets get realistic here.Flames will come in 6th-9 place int he Western Conference.:notacrook:

The Flames might make the playoffs, a playmaker was definitely missing last season. The thing that I think is missing and is more important is youth, energy and most importantly, heart.

I wonder if the lower expectations will be a boon to the team this year...

Everyone is so quick to forget the amazing first half of last season the flames had. I know it went all down hill nearing the end of the season but if last years first half team shows up for an entire season the flames can easily make the playoffs and even compete for the division.

For the first 30 games or so if I remember correctly we where easily the best Canadian team and leading our conference by quite a good margin. I'm not sure what happened but people shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the flames. Not to big of a deal though I kind of like them being the under-dogs, reminds me of the 2004 run.

Heh. I saw a sports mag on the newsstand this weekend, their cover story was "Flames and Oilers re-tool their teams for success" or some such nonsense.

Fair be it to say that there will be no cup in Alberta this year, and I wouldn't even put even odds on any April hockey in this province. Edmonton's in yet another rebuilding phase, and Calgary... well, the Flames might not get a first overall pick this year, but that's about all I can say.

Im going to guess you're another vancouver fan? Im realistic, I don't think the flames will do overly well this year but they are not a sure non-playoff team. The Flames were leading the division by a lot more than games in hand, especially while Luongo was out. That being said, the wheels fell off in mid December and Vancouver caught up quick.

^ Even as a Canucks fan I think they're ranked too high. Top five? Sure, perhaps but 1? I doubt they'll take first in the west. They always seem to suffer from a ~15 game slump that hurts them in the standings.

I like Alain Vigneault but I think he has sometimes been outcoached in the playoffs. Team chemistry is also something that can't be determined until the season begins. Trades and injuries are also wildcards that also can't be considered for these preseason rankings.

The Canucks have said that they will play Luongo less which will be important as the season progresses. Cory Schneider seems to have had good stats in the minors but I wasn't blown away by him when he was called up when Luongo was hurt. Then again, that's a tough situation for a young goalie to be in.

The Canucks seem to have a bad habit of lowering their level of play for bad teams. That worries me if we're supposed to be a great team this year and on paper most teams are inferior.

Overall, I'm pretty excited about the Canucks this year but as a longtime fan I've learned not to get my hopes up too much.

By appealing the conviction, during which time the judge will let him stay out while the lawyers make a killing trying to delay things as long as they can. The judge will let him leave the country as they won't want to prevent him from undertaking his normal employment either. lol my cold heart can not feel sympathy for Montreal in this situation, but it's just rather sad and humorous. Carey Price, I'm guessing, won't be receiving the best reception.

And it won't be his fault. Yes, he can act like a child sometimes but the "management" (if we can call them like that, there're a bunch of clowns) should have kept both for another year. Halak and Price were both RFA so we couldn't lose them.

Then when we would had to make that decision the next year, we keep the goalie with the better stats and trade the one with the worse.
You don't trade the best player of the 2010 playoffs and the reason why we made the playoffs 3 times in the last 4 years.
2010: Halak: 26 wins in 45 games, Price: 13 wins in 46 games
2009: Halak: 18 wins in 34 games, Price: 23 wins in 52 games
2008: The magical season
2007: Halak: 10 wins in 18 games (almost all those wins came in April where Huet was injured. Halak put us in playoff position after 81 games but because Huet was ready... we put the French in nets for the last game of the season... he allowed 6 goals and we were out of the playoffs)

Halak career win %: 55%
Price career win %: 45%

I swear if Gauthier don't resign Markov next year, I will think about stop watching the Habs and switching to the St-Louis Blues!!!

BTW- I LIKE PRICE but I just think Halak is the better goalie especially after those playoffs.

Personally I think the Sportsnet West guys who do the Flames games are the best right now, but it's possible that's being coloured by comparing them to Cole. ANYONE is better than that old idiot.

We still have it 10x better than the US though. Their announcers are stone cold BOOOOOOOORING. And they don't actually find hockey itself interesting as a sport, so they have to try to dress it up needlessly. Think the Fox puck as translated verbally. Plus they keep having to invent statistics and numbers to make it feel more like baseball.

EDMONTON — It appears the No. 1 pick is going to wear No. 4.

The unofficial word is that Taylor Hall, the Edmonton Oilers prized selection from the NHL's 2010 entry draft, will wear No. 4 this season. The number has been on the shelf since Kevin Lowe's last game on Edmonton's blue-line back in the 1997-98 campaign.

Hall wore the No. 4 when he starred with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL but could not assume ownership of it in the NHL without the OK from Lowe, who is now the Oilers president of hockey operations. The whiz kid once said he would not ask for the number out of respect for his boss.

Can we all agree Bob Cole has got to go? Sure, he's a legend in sports broadcasting but c'mon, he's clearly going senile!

Yes! I'm with you, time to pack it in Bob. :koko:

John Shorthouse and John Garrett are an awesome pair. Love those 2. Jim Hughson I could do without. He always has to shorten people's names. Stop calling them "Pat Kane", "Pat Sharp", and "Pat Marleau".

Jim Hughson...whenever he calls between Vancouver and Calgary I'll always turn the volume off on the TV and listen to Peter Mahr on the Fan960. I must say we are very lucky here in Calgary to have one of the best play-by-play guys in the league on the radio! Another one that has got to go soon is Rod Phillips in Edmonton, sad to say but he sorta reminds me of the late Ed Whalen always two seconds behind in the play-by-play.

Rod Phillips is already retired. He only does a couple nostalgic shows a year.

Who is interested in doing it again? We must have at least 10 people.

I believe so but 10-12 people here shouldn't be hard to achieve?

I like this move:

"The Sheldon Souray saga took an interesting twist Monday evening as Edmonton Oilers' general manager Steve Tambellini issued a statement letting the media know that the disgruntled defenceman was not welcome at camp.

"We've been trying to move the player for some time obviously," Tambellini explained to reporters at the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. "Sheldon has expressed strong interest over a long period of time that it's best for him to move and we're going to try and help him with that. I couldn't get that done prior to this camp."

I'm out this time. I'm in 2 pools already and am playing hockey this winter, I definitely won't have time for this pool. Good luck to the rest of you though!

Luo officially gave up the "C" the other day over the phone with Mike Gillis. Now they're deciding who it should go to, most likely one of the following:

Henrik or Daniel
Kesler
Burrows

Or so that's what I've heard.
My prediction: Henrik or Daniel :D

^ It'll be Hank. I can't see Kesler or Burrows getting it, they are still both a bit too emotional. Maybe in 5-6 years.
