avoiding a paper and looking through some stats...
canucks 97/98 season had a pretty weird roster:
pavel bure, mark messier, alexander mogilny, markus naslund, donald brashear, jyrki lumme, and trevor linden. just doesn't seem right. even weirder were the goalies we played with at various points that season: kirk mclean, arturs irbe, corey hirsch and garth snow!
the following season, naslund was our leading point-getter at just 66, followed by messier at a wopping 48 pts. ouch.
the westcoast express hit its heydey in the 02/03 season with naslund at 104 pts, bertuzzi at 97, and morrison at 71 for a total of 272.
our top (sedins + burrows) line this year has 235 pts total so far and 264 last year.
between mclean's and cloutier's eras, we had the following goalies:
kirk mclean > corey hirsch > arturs irbe > garth snow > kevin weekes > felix potvin > bob essensa > dan cloutier.
weekes went a solid 0 and 8 in 98/99 :haha:
the sedin with the most points has been alternating for the past 8 seasons:
02/03 henrik, 03/04 daniel, 05/06 henrik, 06/07 daniel (team leader), 07/08 henrik (team leader), 08/09 daniel (team leader), 09/10 henrik (art ross), 10/11 daniel (art ross likely).
last year we had 6 players with 25+ goals. this year we have 2 (but burrows is close).
this season between nov 22 and jan 7, in 22 games, we had only ONE regulation loss!

I really don't get why Canucks fans have a hate on for Cloutier so much..
Yea he had some playoff collapses, but so has Luongo and the Canucks in general..
Cloutier between 2001 and 2004:
2001-2002: 31-22-5 901 sav%
2002-2003: 33-16-7 908 sav%
2003-2004: 33-21-6 916 sav%
I just don't get why he's the worst by far of all Vancouver goalies through the eyes of their fans.. Try having Vesa Toskala.

Cloutier was pretty weak. I remember when Crawford took him to LA with him, Calgary played the first game against him in LA (IIRC) and he allowed 2 goals on dump ins from outside the zone, and I think this was in the first 5 minutes or so! When he managed to make his first save the whole Staples Center started cheering sarcastically.

Cloutier was attacked because Vancouver has never in its history had solid, consistent goaltending. He was another in a long string of should-be-better-but-ends-up-disappointing goalies.
Which is why Luongo is basically treated as a god there now. So much so that the fucking "ooooo" chant which sounds like "boo" has infected almost all teams. I think I heard it on the weekend for some Oilers player who has an "oo" sound in his name somewhere.

My sentiments had nothing to do with cheering and chanting in general. Just so we're clear. From what I can recall, people have done it at hockey games since the game became a spectator sport. i don't think he's that hated, or if he is, it's by the retarded fans that every team is cursed with. consistently 30+ win seasons for the canucks, especially back then, that was definitely solid. i kinda liked his temper too, he was willing to scrap with the opposing goalie if the situation called for it.
sure, there was some fun poked at him after we blew up in '04 (was it '05?) against the red wings, epitomized by cloutier letting in a half ice shot. a few photos of beach balls photoshopped behind him in the net, but as far as i know, he's fairly well regarded.
Which is why Luongo is basically treated as a god there now. So much so that the fucking "ooooo" chant which sounds like "boo" has infected almost all teams. I think I heard it on the weekend for some Oilers player who has an "oo" sound in his name somewhere.

the towel thing isn't douchbaggery, it's one of the cooler stories and traditions in hockey. going about 28 years strong. it has turned into a corporate thing in the way that people don't bring towels from home, they're left on the seats during the playoffs, but it's routes are organic. upon returning to vancouver after the incident in chicago, fans brought their own towels out.

Either he's Wolverine, the Toilet Seats' medical staff is the best in the universe, or someone was making up a bunch of shit from the start.
For the last time:
ANY LOSS OF Consciousness is refered as Grade 3 concussion because unconsciousness is a concussion symptom.
As for the broken vertebrea, he was extremely lucky because the bone cracked but it didn't damage the spinal cord (which is where Langkow got hit unfortunately). As long as the spinal cord isn't damaged, the broken vertebrea is like a normal fracture. Even more lucky is the fact he broke his C4 because had he broke his C1 or C2 (a few mm closer to the head) he would have been paralyzed.
Since I'm not a doctor here are quotes:
The number and type of symptoms a person suffers varies widely
Why Savard and Crosby should not be used as an example...
If you happen to re-injure your brain during the time of healing, the concussion recovery time will extend considerably.
This time can differ from patient to patient
And most importantly people should STFU because the Habs revealed Pacioretty's injuries AFTER it was known Chara wouldn't be suspended.
Amazing how all of you wished the fastest recovery for Max Pac but now that's he's feeling better, there is still something wrong.
Flamesrule

Nicko999
Apr 2, 2011, 12:14 AM
What really happened to Max Pacioretty?
A lab recreation of a hit like the one Pacioretty suffered shows that he might recover faster than Sidney Crosby
By now, the stomach-churning footage of Max Pacioretty of the Montreal Canadiens slamming headfirst into a post during an NHL game on March 8 is well-known. The hit, delivered by Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins, happened in less than a second, but it took several unnerving minutes for medical personnel and teammates to carry an unconscious Pacioretty off the ice. Doctors later diagnosed him with a concussion and a fractured vertebra, from which he is still recovering. Considering the powerful collision, it’s stunning that the 22-year-old wasn’t hurt worse or even killed, as many fans and players feared that night.

With the playoff-bound Boston Bruins leading 3-2 in the second period of Thursday's game against the Leafs, forward Brad Marchand decided to send a little message to the Toronto bench.
He skated over to the Toronto players and mimicked a golf swing, the universal sign to let a team know their season is over while yours is continuing.

Reimer keeping the leafs alive!
During the broadcast people on hockey night in canada talked about burke ging after Richards in the off season. I think that would be great for the team, what do others here think of that? (the possibility of Richards playing for the leafs?)

PK Subban is improving every game... damn...what a beast of a defenseman we drafted!
10th in goals among D-man
4th in PP goals among D-man (only Wideman has more with 9, Subban is tied with Chara and Byfuglien)
By playing his 70th game tonight, Carey Price tied the team record for most games played in a season. His next one will give him rank #1

Also the 36 wins this season by Price equals the most Patrick Roy could get in a season with the Habs.

Well tonight's game was a lot better played than the last one against the Sens.. but still not great. Great home crowd though.. in Ottawa. I swear it was at least 2/3 blue and white..
PP was awful, Schenn wasn't playing very well or making good decisions, Komi turned away from blocking a shot, effectively screening Reimer causing the second goal (though it was on a bullshit powerplay from a dive).
Congrats to Kessel for getting his 30th, 1 of only 3 players this year who have 30 for 3 consecutive seasons, and the youngest of them to do it.
3 30 goal seasons at 23? Doesn't sound too terrible to me..
Kadri with his 3rd on an UGLY goal off Anderson's skate. He's been playing a lot better as of late.
Bozak and Kulemin also scored (though Bozak's goal was really Lupul's, as it just happened to hit hit skate on its way in).
So still mathematically in! And the "Reimer honeymoon" continues for another day!

So we can have the privilege to eliminate you during the last game of the season.:P
We're now down to 20 teams including 4 Canadians.

For the record, no one with a brain ever called Kessel TERRIBLE... but many people have rightly pointed out that 30 goal guys aren't necessarily worth 2 first round picks+.
Much like how Dion isn't the worst player in the entire planet, but he sure as shit ain't worth mortgaging a team over.
Oh wait, Stajan... I forgot, people down there thought he was an NHL calibre player. :haha:

4-1, kinda like vancouver's season record against the oilers?
the game was pretty meaningless for both sides.

3 pts games for every team chasing us... how strange.
At least the magic number is now 2. All we have to do is win a game and we're in (or a regulation loss by Carolina).

Philly loses to NYR in a SO, then Buffalo can't beat Carolina in regulation time??

It might have been better for the Ducks to win. Dallas has a stupid easy final four. The Flames have to be worried about the Stars catching up even if Chicago manages to drop out of the race.
That last Calgary-Anaheim really could end up being the game that screwed them over. Of course there were a number of others that they really needed points in, like the two recent Phoenix losses.

The 2 Phoenix loses and 2 Anaheim losses, very close together, killed the Flames.
I said several weeks ago that the Flames will be officially knocked out by the Canucks, on the last game of the season. Recently I didn't think this had a hope in hell of actually happening, but for the first time in weeks, all the teams ahead of them that they're in the race with lost. Astounding, and it can't possibly continue.
Could the western conference cutoff be at 97 points or even higher this year? And Toronto is "still in it" with 84 points. No, the eastern conference isn't weaker at all! :haha:

Toronto isn't in it anymore. Nowhere close.

The Eastern cutoff will be 95.
The only way that's possible is if the remaining teams in the race win every single one of their games left. About equally likely that Toronto makes it, as far as that goes.
I'll call it at 93 likely, 91 quite possible for the cutoff.

The way it's been going, I'm actually guessing they will win all their remaining games.. :P
But yea I'd say lowest 93, there's no way at this point Toronto's losing out by one point.
The West race has been ridiculously close for ever now, but you have to admit the East race got pretty interesting for a while.. Especially when it was a possibility NJ would catch up and take it. Not that I'm upset they faceplanted of course!
