What is a Rivercat?

I know it's not Sacramento, but the cities are quite similar in many respects (although Omaha has a new arena and a developed waterfront). Plus they have a shared history re: the railroad. Anyway, took these yesterday and today while wandering about town.

Thanks for sharing Cat. Omaha benefits greatly from being the homebase to quite a few Fortune 500 companies for its size. It sure helps to have Berkshire Hathaway in your backyard to build a landmark tower!

Being Union Pacific HQ certainly helps. How much actual development is on the river? I see a building on one bank, and a riverboat slip, and a parking lot. What else is there?
Having passed through Omaha on the train a few times, I have been tempted to stop there for a while and check it out, to get the perspective from the Union Pacific end of the tracks.

Nice pics, Rivercat. You captured some of Omaha's best buildings.
wburg--You can't see it well in Rivercat's photos but ConAgra, a Fortune 500 company, has its world headquarters on 30 acres of riverfront land in Downtown Omaha. It's a sprawling suburban style campus with several short buildings (not a highrise), and lots of unbuilt green space, so it doesn't photograph well in skyline photos.
Downtown Omaha was blessed when their north-south interstate got built acoss the river, on the Iowa side...like if I-5 ran through West Sac instead of Downtown.

Thanks - yeah took the pics with my new Evo phone! Anyway, the riverfront has a wonderful park and the Qwest center, as well as the Gallup Campus. Very, very nice city. And the old town puts Sac's to shame.

Actually Berkshire doesn't even have it's own building. They are a tenant in Kiewit's building (2 F500 in one building) right next to Mutual of Omaha (another F500) in Midtown, not Downtown. The tallest if First National Bank of Omaha's HQ.
This is the building Berkshire and Kiewit are in.

In this shot you can see Kiewits building to the far left and from the eastern part of Midtown to the river Downtown. There is another large cluster of buildings to the west of where Mutual/Kieiwit are for the UN Medical Center. It is it's own skyline in it's own right. Currently on the river there is another 16 story condo tower u/c and across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa they are finalizing plans to build a new park and mixed use area on the other side of the Kerry Bridge landing.

You must be talking about this picture.

This is not in Omaha, that is a casino Iowa.
You can check this out for some of the shots of the different areas I mentioned. My friend took these and they're pretty comprehensive.
