Wow, so many pics here that I like. I love those night shots (I just love cities at night and looking at the lights.)
I also really like the pic above the night time shots, looking down the harbour at the casino with the ship poking out behind them.
Great shots everyone. I have gotta buy me a camera one of these days.
Harlington, the picture of the Dartmouth Ferry terminal Park; why were those people running? Must be to check on the King's Wharf progress.

That is a great photo-journal by flar! Great comments in his thread about Halifax too. We made quite an impression.
Thanks. I think people on the forum will enjoy the neighbourhood photos when I post those too. I tooks some shots in the North End and a few in the South End to demonstrate the residential vernacular of Halifax.

I've said that many times! How often do you see post cards of Halifax featuring either the downtown skyline, or the Purdy's buildings up close. Nearly always!

Once King's Wharf (several highrises including a 32 storey tower) and one other high rise development (17 and 24 storeys) are complete then the Dartmouth Skyline will be much more impressive. It will take about 5 years to complete (the second one hasn't been approved yet).

Thanks for posting the pictures. I like the BMO building however it sounds like it might change radically in the future. This picture will become a solid image of glass (I am not complaining, but in this case maintaining a bit of concrete might actually be good).

It will be a bit sad. I remember my Dad taking me across on the ferry at night to see several Voyagers games and how impressive that BoM tower was to me as a 10 year old. I can still picture the old blue "M" logo shimmering in the water.

I agree, BMO has a good exterior cladding, it adds to the mix of glass that eventually will fill the skyline! TD, RBC, IP

I do like its qualities, but it could do with some retouching. If you look up close at the BMO the cladding is not in very good shape.

I've always wondered about the little chunk of old brick wall that's part of the building on the right of the third picture. Anybody know what that was originally? Some kind of hospital building? Old Victoria General?
There have been major medical and related buildings in this area for a long time - since the mid-1800s or so.

Could be part of the old civic hospital which stood right about there. I was treated there for a couple of things when I was young. It was torn down in the eighties, I think.

Nice shots. The red bricl bldg in the third shot:
Centre for Clinical Research
5790 University Avenue
The Centre for Clinical Research (CCR) is located on University Avenue, adjacent to the Mackenzie Building of the QEII Health Sciences Centre. The CCR is a program of the QEII Health Sciences Centre - one of Canada's leading teaching hospitals, located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The QEII has a strong commitment to health research in all disciplines.
The Centre for Clinical Research administers, facilitates and coordinates all research which is carried out at the QEII.
The front of the bldg might have been upadated, since it resembles the MacKenzie bldg.
The old civic hospital was on the site of the present IWK parking garage (where the pictures were taken, great spot for photos).

It's unfortunate how almost all of these Victorian institutional buildings were torn down in Halifax.
A few other cities in Canada have reused them and they look pretty good. There are also some slightly horrifying old hospitals but MaRS in Toronto for example reused an old building as part of a research facility.

It unfortunately is in desperate need of work inside! I have been to many meetings of the medical research ethics board there, and it is horrible. you freeze in the winter and sweat in the summer.
It is also bloody confusing that you have the Centre for Clinical Research on one side of the street (part of QEII) and the Clinical Research Centre on the other (part of Dal). Although actually I hope that the CRC stays even after the renos that they have planned on Campus.

I think this looks great. I seriously can't understand why the heritage people don't like (somewhat) tall buildings. They must goes nuts when they visit Toronto.
This is the new Halifax, a mix of old and new, whether the heritage people like it or not. I think Halifax has a good mix.

I'm curious: does anyone have any skyline pics that have renderings of all potential downtown developments (Nova Centre, Twisted Sisters, Roy Building, etc.)?

I did this one awhile ago. It's not to exactly to scale and I used paint to do it lol.

Very nice :)
And the Twisted Sisters would, if built, hide most if not all of the eventual new Barrington/Sackville building. Oui? The Row Building should be visible, hopefully.

The Discovery Centre would likely be blocked - the Roy building would be below what would be the Nova Centre, you are correct.

Trillium making a big impact, can't imagine what The Alexander, Nova Centre, and International Place would add! All the naysayers like the skyline after the fact!

Amazing how much cleaner the water in the harbour is too. The rocks aren't stained black and you can even see the bottom.

Not my picture (see flickr post). I'd say somewhere north of downtown Dartmouth.

Yeah, nice shot!
It's funny; it looks like a mini Sears/Willis tower to the right of Maritime Centre. I think it's a church spire covered by scaffolding or something.

Took this a few days ago. Although overcast, still a sunny afternoon in Halifax. Excuse the poor quality of the photo. Forgot my camera, so used my cell.

Great photos.
The proposal for a 16-22 storey tower on Spring Garden near Robie will fill a gap in the skyline from this angle.
Only downside is it won't be much taller than the neighbours. It would be great if a few 35-40 storey residential buildings were built around town. They'd really stand out.

Yes, but it would cause the world to spin off its axis, so we couldn't have that. They'd be TOO TALL!!!!

Good point, it would be like adding a bump on a spinning wheel that would put it out of balance. It might cause all kinds of cataclysmic events to occur on earth :)
