So apparently I wasn't the only one who decided after watching the news to go into Steveston today to buy some salmon off the dock! I've never seen anything like it, people walking away with bags of salmon. If you like fresh sockeye, this is the year to get it.

Well, as of earlier today, Choices on Davie Street had its fresh sockeye salmon on for sale. That's about all I've seen, so far.

I was at Grandview PS yesterday, and it was Pink Salmon that was on sale, not sockeye. Considering Pink only run every two years on the odd numbers, those are likely from last year.

The only ones that get reductions are the commercial fisherman. They have gone from getting approx 1.75/lb last tues, to 1.35 on thurs, now around .95/lb from the processors....they get screwed. Biggest haul in years, but the wholesalers, restaurants etc likely wont pass on too much of a savings.

What you need to find is a "native" connection. $10/fish. Before this year, hadn't seen that deal for many, many years. Got 10 myself yesterday :)

I wish that there was some place in new west to get fresh salmon other than a grocery store for $5.50/lb. Steveston is too far to go by transit with a smelly fish in a cooler. :P

steveston was packed both yesterday and today. there were two boats selling sockeye and both had huge line-ups. apparently the river is closed to fishing right now, but will re-open on monday and wednesday. so the guy there said to come on tuesday and thursday for the next catch of sockeye (and shorter weekday lineups). today it was selling for $5/lb.

As someone who lives here, it's quite remarkable to see national attention on our little corner of Richmond due to the salmon catch.

I have never been to Steveston once in my life, I think it is the only area of Metro-Vancouver I have never been. Heck I have even been to Delta Port several times before (like actually in the port, in, around and under the cranes), but not Steveston!

They are selling sockeye for $15 a fish today...they are 5~7 lbs and gutted of course. Bought 3 for friends...

I bought one from Superstore today for $15 ($4/lb) and cooked it immediately. It was quite good. Gutted, de-headed. All I had to do was scale it and cut off the fins.

Must up the price on the weekends.

We went this morning and they were $20/fish. A few also had $4/lb. Some were also charging extra for gutting the fish.

Salmon Roe was $5/lb.

There's an opening for commercial fishermen on Monday (Labour Day), and then that's it.

Yep, which is why the commercial sockeye run is being shut down after today. The coho run is beginning.
